You rember being eight and laying on the grass looking at the sky and putting a blade of grass in your mouth , and that smell of the dust in the air , and maybe thinking about the natural world ? My point is that you can chase any fantastic desire or gratification but those little moments of TRUTH are just as significant and probably more . Modern man insulates himself from being “ close to the earth”, he builds artificial layers and chases things that numb the natural pain of life . But the meaningful stuff is usually the simple stuff.
Of course, and I agree. With Bourdain in particular, he had endless options to chase the fleeting and artificial, but I think strove to recapture what you're talking about.
That he made such a valiant effort at pursuing legitimate human relationships, real places, etc. and it wasn't fulfilling enough for him is probably indicative of the burden he carried.

Bad move to move it. Particularly because the Poli Board has batted Bourdain topics around for a decade. And because it was on the Poli Board peoplenon the Movie Board are going to be wondering why all the comments were political.
I mean, at what point do you identify with a person so much that you celebrate when one of their detractors kills themselves?
It's like how the insecure middle schooler would react.

Or one who screams at the sky, rants uncontrollably, and disrupts family gatherings to scream “ Fukc the Orange Cheeto “ before grabbing his soy milk, the wife and her boyfriend, and storming out to the Prius with the “ I’m with Her” bumper sticker and driving home to their tiny home to watch said wife’s boyfriend violate her anally on the couch while cooking for both.

The Poliboard as a whole is Idiocracy come to life: Trial scene

It really is a cesspool.

This is what I believe social media has done and to a much lesser extent, the efficiency of our technology in delivering the information that we WANT to see.
Social media has completely unmasked people's inner most motivations and desires, then compounds them via "Likes" and views. It's driven somewhat healthy people to what I'd liken to starved stray dogs addicted to the clicker sound and being fed a big hunk of meat each time until... well, they aren't. Then it's off to somewhere else in search for their fix.
The variety the internet offers keeps people on the hook and encourages their behavior even if they are heading straight for a cliff. You can always find that 1% on the internet who agree with you and will encourage you to continue down your current path no matter how detrimental. The down-vote option is one of the main reasons I love TD. Most of society today needs a down-vote button.
For me personally, social media has killed off most of my curiosity and interest in people in general. I'm not near the romantic I used to be.

No Reservations and Parts Unknown were great shows.
I probably binged watched both twice on Netflix.

Keep in mind it was on the Poliboard first, because the people on this board tend to be good people.

I wouldn't describe you as a bad person. A bit of a troll, but doesn't make you bad. There are several on the Poliboard (especially today) who I would say lack anything remotely resembling human decency.

I wasn't the biggest Bourdain fan, and thought he was constantly negative and condescending.
But i read a story today about when he came to St Louis he met a kid with cancer who asked him where he should travel to eat when he went into remission. He said Spain. A couple days after the event, he reached out to a local reporter or someone involved with the event, and ironed out the details on paying for that kid to travel to Spain.
He requested that he not be mentioned in the stories written about the kid.
It makes me wonder how many other stories are out there like that were never told because he wasn't looking for that kind of attention. An audience, yes, but not that kind of attention.

Money and fame don’t always equal happiness, you don’t have to be a genius to realize that
And “not having to work” is especially not a prerequisite to happiness. Why do you think most billionaires still work everyday instead of just buying a small island and drinking margaritas all day every day? Because that doesn’t make people happy

One of my favorite episodes was when he went to Lebanon and a war broke out.
