LSU was going to give reps to Brumfield at offensive center......they are trying to put the juco og at LG and keep Ingram at RG ; trying to build a strong interior line with great OC and OG depth.

Anyone hear any feedback from practices on Brumfield at OC ??

Doesnt really sound like they tried this in the spring, but have continuously talked about it. I know last year Brumfield got some practice at center.

All I know is I trust Cregg to know what the F he is doing. Long time NFL guy. He’ll know the best 5 to put out there.

Brumfield is such a smart kid. I’d love to have him captain the O Line.

You always give a second OG plenty of snaps at C for depth. This sounds like more than that... time will tell. I thought Cushenberry was looking good enough (not great, but good enough) to be penciled in. If this is more than "backup reps", then I was wrong. We will know for sure by fall.

As for a shuffle someone mentioned, by all means definitely a possibility. Ingram looked better at OG last year than Charles did before he moved to OT. Lewis, he's showing out. If they have to shuffle to get Lewis on the field- then by all means. Brumfield is pretty damn good, and is experienced (plus plus for a protection calling center) and you want to leave Ingram on the field too... makes sense.

It's the best 5 combo they are reaching for. Since Lewis is much much much both better than rated (I'm not going to say expected) somebody has to go back a spot on depth chart. And I'm sure they loathe to take a solid and experienced IL in Brumfield back.

So this is about Ingram and Cush... which one is better. Ingram proved himself last year to me, and continues to progress. Cush was progressing very well (IMO) but was starting from further behind. It's how it goes.

ETA: NOW is the time for such things. Not fall camp on into the first 4 games. I mention that because the inability to identify strengths/weaknesses and make adjustments early was one of, if not my biggest, gripe about Grimes. Kudos to Cregg for doing this now; now he just needs to get it right and execute properly.

This is how I think it shakes out:

LT: S. Charles/ B. Traore
LG: D. Lewis/ C. Hines
C: G. Brumfield/ L. Cushenberry
RG: E. Ingram/ D. Campbell
RT: A. Deculus/ A. Magee

I hope Brumfield at Center works out. His quickness will help him get to the 2nd level on a LBer. Ingram and Lewis are what you need at Guard. Big and physical. Ingram stepped in last year and played well for a true freshman. Only hiccups he had were a few missed assignments which is understandable for a freshman. I expect him to be ready to go this year. The same goes for Charles as well. He stepped in and played well last year at Guard, but he looked even better at Tackle. Deculus struggled in the playing time he did receive, but hopefully this is the year he puts it all together. If not, Magee is an experienced OL he may be the guy at RT.

Traore does not have the feet to play left tackle. He's having a hard enough time keeping up with the speed of the big boys at RT. Ideally he should play guard.

LSU's "Best 5" OL's would be hard pressed to make the third team at Alabama. Fact, not opinion. That's how far OL talent has declined.

Brumfield at Center? Never played a snap there. Doesn't know the Line calls. Just what LSU needs in the SEC West. It just keeps gettin betta and betta.

If Brumfield can play C effectively this oline will be dominant.

Oh, please. What "football" do you watch? Last I noticed, guards play next to centers and Brumfield started two years next to a guy who's now in the NFL. Do you really think he's both deaf and stupid?

People are sleeping on our o line. I think it will be a strength this year, we played 3 freshmen last year, they’ll be much improved

Agreed. Not at all sold on Brumfield. What makes everyone believe he is an SEC caliber OL? Please tell.
