Who should LSU bring in? Obviously Ochinko isn't the answer. Gibbs may come back but I don't think he is the answer either. We need a reputable coach. That would really help out with recruiting and make decisions for guys like Slaughter and Cabell that much easier knowing they could come back here and get better and improve their stock.

I don't believe LSU can hire a hitting coach without getting rid of Cain.

Gibbs took over the 2017 squad and did a great job. The team was first or second in conference in most hitting stats. He was lost for the 2018 season due to injury. If he is coming back I think we are in good shape.

He was still with the team this year and still doing his analytics with each hitter.

Yeah but like with pitchers we have Alan Dunn. Everybody wants to come play for Alan Dunn. They know he can prepare them for the next level. He's been there and done that. We need that type of guy for hitting IMO.

You would have to fire either Cain or Dunn to have a hitting coach. You can only have 3 paid coaches. Cain has done a damn good job recruiting for us and a pitching coach is an absolute necessity. Gibbs will be fine

It would be wonderful but you'd have to get rid of our recruiting director to get a guy like that

Honest question: how common is this? How many schools use one of their paid assistant positions just for recruiting and rely on volunteers to coach hitting?

It’s probably common baseball doesn’t have the money to spend on coaches nor are they allowed more than I think 3.

I may get downvoted like crazy for this but then I say you get rid of Cain. We need to get a guy in here that can recruit AND be a top notch hitting coach.

If we are paying you a nice 6 figure salary you should be able to do both at a high CONSISTENT level year in and year out. Ex: See Alan Dunn.

If we get rid of Cain who's going to have guys thrown out at home?

Sure we can. He'll just be paid by TAF and not by LSU.

Do you think Will Davis worked for free all those years he was the "volunteer" coach?

Help with recruiting? After July 15 when everything is done with MLB signings we will probably have the 2-3 class in the country
Cain also has our classes stacked for 19-20
You think Watson would of put such a big number on himself if he didn’t want to come back?

Ochinko does need to go though
If Gibbs can’t come back someone else should be hired

Not saying we don't recruit at a high level now. I'm saying it would help with guys like Slaughter and Cabell who are on the fence knowing they could come, or in Slaughter's case come BACK, to LSU and get top notch coaching and improve their hitting and their stock.

We could bring in someone that could do BOTH. Recruit at a high level AND be a top notch hitting coach.
