Wife Finally Convinced me to Read the Harry Potter series

As Adults, which I would think most/all here are, would you recommend these books to other adults? I just started the Half Blood Prince, and I think JK does a good job of aging Potter because he started so Naive, and the last book I read (Order of the Phoenix) Harry was a whiny moody brat. She does a good job of showing his harmone changes I think. What do you guys think?
FYI, I haven't seen the last few movies so I can't compare to movie.

I've thought about reading these so many times, but I've just never committed to it. Like ya mentioned, I didn't know how it would hit me as an adult, and I've already seen the movies so I feel like the overall story and twists have already been spoiled for me.
I wish I'd read it, though. The overall story and twists from the movies seem like they would have been incredible if I'd been invested in the book story.

I read them as an adult. Part of the problem I had was I kept forgetting they were kids. Had I been 11 reading the books, some of their decisions would have made more sense. I was reminded by a friend of their age and to try to remember back to when I was 11.

I’ve been thinking of reading them.
I’ve never seen any of the movies so the books might be enjoyable.
Never been into wizard stuff though.

There is a ton of other stuff i would recommend before these to an adult who doesn't really have any vested interest in the series.
That said, they are solid books but I think some of the stuff they get praised for is a bit over the top. Rowling falls back on the same old same old for conflict resolution too many times IMO - which is fine as they are kids book, but adults probably will see through some of that easier.
Overall, solid reads which are quick and easy for the most part.

My wife had to remind me of age when I told her Harry was a Dick to his friends. She told me to remember my sudden mood changes as a kid from happy, to anger, to sad, and back. So, I guess he isn't a much of a Dick as I thought... though he was very whiny most of OotP

my buddy's 7 year old daughter is halfway through the books. I'm not sure I could bring myself to read them knowing that.

I decided to pick them up during a boring summer between my junior and senior year of college. I loved them, and they got me back into reading again. Sometimes, it's good to try being a kid again. For those thinking about it, the first book should take you no time to read. If you don't get into it, you only lost a few days of reading.
I think this is a very small sample size to make that judgement.

I read the entire series last summer as a 33 year old. I had never seen a single Harry Potter movie all the way through when I started. Even though I'm not much for fantasy I thoroughly enjoyed the series.
ETA: and the books are way better than the movies. I think the first movie I watched while reading the series was Prisoner of Azkaban and I thought it was mediocre at best. Then I saw a Nerdwriter video on the Potter flim series and he praised PoA as the BEST of the Potter movies. Couldn't believe it.

PoA was kinda boring as a movie but one of the best books in the series.

I didn’t read the potter books until I was 30 and the last movie had been out a couple of years. I really enjoyed them. Much more than than the movies. I’m definitely looking forward to the days when my son is old enough to enjoy them and reading them with him.
They aren’t perfect but they will probably age very well and be around for a long time.
My .02 but if you are an aspiring author and haven’t read them then do yourself a favor and get to it. Rowling puts on a clinic on how to do the three act structure over the course of each book and the series as a whole.

I actually just finished the series, and I'm 27. I started it when I was younger but never finished. It was a fun read.

UPDATE: I read the entire Potter series long after I'd seen the movies once or more. Didn't spoil anything in the books for me to have seen them first. If anything, the books helped me realize how brilliantly cast and directed the movies were - the characters were right on target in both.

I read the first few at the same time my daughter was reading them. They bored me to tears, but could absolutely see why kids/teens loved them.
