They are our cousins, not our ancestors. We descended from a common ancestor.

Catholics focus more on the New Testament rather then the Old Testament.

That's BS. The Foundation of the Catholic faith is the New Testament and the teachings of Christ, but I'll be damned if I don't know a lot of Catholics that believe the world was formed in 6 days and that all life began with Adam and Eve.

I meant the Church’s view not the people.
I said in above post that a lot of American Catholics do not know the Church’s official stance on evolution, Big Bang, etc. The primary reason being they’re surrounded by Protestants that do often take a literal view on the Old Testament. That and a lot of them don’t go to Catholic schools so they get the shitty public school version of it.

The new testamanet is full of Jesus the magician. If you are going to believe he literally walked on water, or fed hundreds of people with a few fish and 2 loaves of bread, then it's not hard to believe the story of Noah.
I went to catholic school from K-12. There was no doubt i was taught to believe Adam and Eve happened, Noah's Ark happened, Jesus was a magician. we had many arguments once we got to around 10th grade about the absurdity of some of these stories.

prove the existence of this god you mentioned
That is the basis of faith...belief in something that can't be proven. One can point to evidence to support a divine creator's existence...but if one could prove it, there would be no need for faith.
The design of human hearing points to something that would seem designed rather than developed.
You have vibrations in the air, that travel through an auditory canal where they strike the tympanic membrane (stretched like a drum head over the inner ear). Vibrations on that membrane are conducted through 3 separate bones that articulate where they are connected to the cochlea. Here, the vibrations are transmitted through a liquid matrix inside of this conch shaped apparatus with semicircular canals. The walls of the cochlea are lined with cilia which move back and forth from the vibration and transmit these to electrical impulses which are transmitted to and interpreted by the brain.
First...that seems like a very complicated system to simply develop over time (if we all did, in fact, evolve from single celled organisms).
Second...if you couldn't hear the vibrations, then how could you know there was a need to develop something to sense and interpret them?
Third...the body decides...hey, this is really awesome at interpreting sound...let's attach a pressure tube to it so we can balance as well.
This is a huge generalization on how hearing works...the fact that these things actually form on a cellular level is astounding. This cell is programmed to be bone, or hair, or cartilage.
So, how many mammals "decided" to evolve hearing in the same fashion, yet evolve other aspects of their anatomy in vastly different ways?
So, one person can have faith that these systems were designed by a divine creator, others have faith that they evolved over millions of years...both take faith, and neither can be proven absolutely.

Honestly, this would have been the place to stop. I can respect that, sort of. I mean, it's no way to go through life for me, but I can respect someone who simply says, "I have faith in this proposition and therefore I have no interest in attempting to prove it at all." But ...you then typed all of this...

...which is essentially nothing but an argument from incredulity fallacy. The fact that, to you, something seems to be too complicated to evolve is of no importance and holds no bearing as to whether or not it can be shown to have done so.
I mean...there are TONS of articles available explaining this, and the evolution of hearing is well documented and understood.

Here's a short, yet wonderfully informative video by Neil Shubin who had written the book, Your Inner Fish after discovering Tiktalik. great book and for anyone still not understanding the power of both evolution AND it's predictive nature, the book is a must read.

So what are you saying, you believe in special creation...that a creator created all beings, as they appeared in one event? If so, this will keep me around for a while...

So if I evolved from a chimpanzee why are they still around?

Is this a troll or a serious question? It's hard to tell in these threads.

Because they understand evolutionary theory?

atheists think they have all of the answers. everything we need is in the bible, the bible says so. god created us in his image and when we fricked up he cast us out of the garden of eden and then he sent his son who was also himself to get killed by us so that we would be saved by him who is also his son from him who was also his son that we killed.
Wow! that makes perfect sense !

Assuming this is a serious question: you didn't evolve from a chimpanzee. That's not what evolution is. You share a common ancestor with chimpanzees.
I blame this graphic for causing so many people to misunderstand what evolution is:
Some people see that image and mistakenly believe that it represents one species evolving when all of the figures are actually distinct species.
Don't think of evolution like this:
It's not a straight line from point a to point b.
It's more like this:
Chimpanzees and humans are on the same branch but they're different twigs. They both grew from the same branch (common ancestor) but they are distinct from each other. And in this example the tree never stops growing and creating new branches and twigs.

If you are required to take it all on faith there's no room for evolution. Its not in the bible.
Here's the bible.
Do what all powerful Deity says. He's your father. He's been invented in your image.
Obey or suffer horrific consequences.
New testament
Believe in recycled tale that if you kill the central figure of your cult, you will be ok later. See Henderson the rain king, a book..

Neither are dinosaurs, but we have fossils that prove they existed.

Dinosaur tracks?
Cognitive dissonance ensues.
Kentucky faithful place dino in the same 7,000 year old terrarium with Adam and eve.

What if divine creation and natural selection aren't mutually exclusive. I believe that there can be an adaptation of things already created...but I don't buy the scale presented by evolutionists.

Or maybe man was created and chimpanzees were created?
