OSU’s field is all turf. Do you prefer an all turf field or think grass and dirt is better?

The only pros are that it's cheaper than keeping up a real grass field and that in areas with bad winter weather it's better for not losing out on playing games due to snowfall.

It normally looks like shite, plays like shite, and promotes a style of baseball I don't find appealing.

Turf infields in outdoor stadiums should be illegal.

Pros of field turf:

- good if you are playing in rainy weather
- don't really get bad hops

Cons:

- tradition says you need to play on grass and dirt
- if its kind of wet or damp, you can slide for like 50 feet.
- ball plays faster off of turf (could be a pro or a con)

I'm 100000% against any pitching surface that isn't dirt. Don't like turf fields outdoors either.

Pitchers and infielders love it. Changes an outfielders approach to line drives as they worry about the ball bouncing over their head. Played on it for two years in college and beat the heck out of grass from a playability standpoint. Much less maintenance as mentioned. It certainly helped the fielding percentage

Just because of the weather. No one wants to have turf.

I hate everything about artificial playing surfaces when it comes to baseball

It’s ugly as frick in my opinion... I’ve seen lately that a lot of the public parks for younger ages have gone to an artificial infield with grass in the outfield.. I get why they do it, but it’s very unsatisfying aesthetically IMO

You cannot play much baseball in the spring out here in the NW if you don't have a turf field...

Playing at Tulane, during a noon game, when they first got their turf infield, was retarded hot. They made us wear molds, which were considerably thinner than our spikes. It felt like I was playing on lava. Once my feet went numb I was good.

I don’t mind either one. Not a fan of big lips on thick infields, but rather true surface.

This is the biggest benefit. Zero bad hops, everything plays true.

Pros:

Maintenance of course
no bad hops
don't have to wear spikes
plays faster

Cons:
No bad hops (from the hitter's perspective)
rubber pellets get EVERYWHERE
hurts like hell to dive on
doesn't feel like baseball

We would always take our team to big leagues before going to State in sulfur to practice when to start your slide. You have to start it earlier, even on dry turf.

If this were the OT, I would expect someone to say "sounds kinda like my ex"

But the Rant is a classy joint, so I doubt anyone here would think that...
