I agree with this. With it being a city known for partying, the weather in February, and the fact that the stadium is actually located in the city, it really is an ideal location for the Superbowl.

I wonder if the new airport will be done by then

We need to rebuild or renovate the Superdome but we simply don’t have the money to do so.

They just commissioned and completed a massive architectural review of the dome (complete with xraying the entire structure) that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They are planning on a massive renovation, including the possibility of adding natural light, widening concourses, etc. This is all been planned for the 2020s.

My guess is they had to promise that they would do most of it before the next Super Bowl.

Is this an issue? I remember it being an issue for Baton Rouge/New Orleans in the late 90's but haven't heard anything recently about blackouts because of the heat being a major problem recently.

I can't say I know for a fact or read anything about it but my buddy that works in Nola and works for Entergy (IT) is the one who mentioned it to me when I mentioned where I will be moving to shortly in Nola.

Let Benson’s widow rebuild it. Not the taxpayers

Why? The taxpayers are the ones that get the return. The dome is used for many more events than it is for Saints games

I never understood this argument.

The Entergy breaker that tripped Tuesday (May 16), causing more than 20,000 Uptown customers to lose power, was thanks "in part" to how hot it got in New Orleans, according to a statement from the company.

Sooooo am I talking out my arse now?

Every city everywhere has power outages.

To make it out to be some massive problem down here because of the heat just isn't true.

Water and pumping...that's a different story. 3rd World Country-esque.

I was just trying to make a joke about something I had heard and assumed to be true about the blackout. Turns out it was true and Tgrbaitin08 got triggered.

Did you even read the article?

quote:

A breaker tripped at a substation serving the Uptown area Tuesday afternoon while crews were performing a scheduled reliability project. As part of the scheduled reliability project which began more than a week ago, Entergy New Orleans shifted load to another transformer.

The breaker wouldnt have tripped if Entergy wasnt working on a PM project...

your post made it sound like NOLA is having daily issues keeping the lights on due to the heat......

talking out of your arse because you dont know what you're talking about

I made one comment that no matter how you phrase it is still true. A blackout was cause in part due to the heat. I didn't say this happens every day, every week, etc. Also, Superbowl is in Feb...I don't think it would get hot enough to worry.

New Orleans has hosted more Super Bowls than any other city right? I remember looking at where each Super Bowl was hosted, going back to the first Super Bowl and it seemed like New Orleans had it several times from when the NFL restructure (1966 or 67 - current) to I guess. early 70s.. If I remember correctly, they were played at the old Tulane stadium.. Of course that was before my time, but I think New Orleans is one of the better cities for hosting a SB.

Weekend before Mardi Gras weekend. Not enough hotels.

They will move the first weekend up a weekend. So you will have MG Weekend 1, Super Bowl, Mardi Gras weekend 2. This is how it was done last time this date was an issue.
