Is this a decent place to live for a young couple? Would Working in BR and living there be ideal? Not OT baller or anything. Prefer something not cookie cutter.

Many do. About 20 mins to downtown between 6-7 am. After that it’s 40-45 mins.

Good luck with that.

Traffic sucks to commute. Very few good restaurants. No good bars.
Pretty good schools.

terd would be your neighbor. He’s like the unofficial goodwill ambassador for Walker.

Check his post history so you know what you’re getting into.

I think so. Not too crowded, has a few restaurants and grocery stores, good schools, easier to get in and out of Baton Rouge than Ascension.

The commute will be tough during rush hour. They do have a lot of subdivisions around there some with small homes and some rather large. Shop around and you can find a nice place. Not much to do to say the least but you're close enough to everything else.

Do yourself a favor. Ride out there and see if you can handle the smell of the landfill. If you can handle it then have at it.

Louisiana’s Walker is contemplating being a sister city to Texas’ Ranger.

If you don’t have a lot of money and just need a decent place to live, you probably will have to bear with the agony of not living in a 100% unique structure unlike any other in the world. Just as your car and everything else you own is also not unique, your house might look similar to another house.

My wife and I love living in the city but we have to pay for private school. Zachary and Walker are tempting.

At least you'll have yourself a DeAngelo's and Albasha's to eat at nearby.

The commute traffic will be horrible, but that's anywhere around BR.

Move to BR because we don't need anymore people in Livingston Parish.

Seriously though, Walker isn't that bad. It's growing and, as others have said, the commute to BR sucks if you have to be to work by 8 or 9. It's equally as bad in the afternoon. There are a lot of pretty decent restaurants...Albasha, Sombreros, Rotolo's Foo Chow, Sherwood Poboy and, if in need of a knuckle check, Sonic.

I live out here but am considering looking at apartments in BR to be closer to work and because of the commute.

Walker is Livingston parish's proud inbreds. We are building our new office out there and I can feel the meth in the air every time I go down walker north\south. It's horrible.

I live off of a one street subdivision on Burgess. About half way between Walker and Juban exit. Once the round a bout gets built on Juban and 1-90 traffic will be a lot better during peak hours. But you will fight minimal traffic leaving for work at 7 and heading home around 330. As others have said, you will spend an hour in traffic if you leave much later than that. My property value has increased 35k (being conservative) since I bought it 3 years ago. And didn’t flood.

Sure Walker has its fair share of trash, but so does every where else.

No landfill smell where I live.

Juban crossing has been great so far. A bunch of different places to eat within a 7 mile radius. Including movie tavern.

Walker Elementary is prob one of the worst schools in the parish but gets better after that. I should note that there’s multiple different elementary schools that feed WHS.

If you have any other questions I’d be happy to answer
