Trump White House quietly cancels NASA research verifying greenhouse gas cuts

You can't manage what you don't measure. The adage is especially relevant for climate-warming greenhouse gases, which are crucial to manage—and challenging to measure. In recent years, though, satellite and aircraft instruments have begun monitoring carbon dioxide and methane remotely, and NASA's Carbon Monitoring System (CMS), a $10-million-a-year research line, has helped stitch together observations of sources and sinks into high-resolution models of the planet's flows of carbon. Now, President Donald Trump's administration has quietly killed the CMS, Science has learned.
..
It's an ironic time to kill the program, Jacob says. NASA is planning several space-based carbon observatories, including the OCO-3, which is set to be mounted on the International Space Station later this year, and the Geostationary Carbon Cycle Observatory, due for launch early next decade. The CMS would help knit all these observations together. "It would be a total shame to wind [it] down," Jacob says.

Even if we measure greenhouse gases, we can’t manage the situation.

Good. It was a misuse of NASA funds. And will you levels ever realize that just because the government isn't doing anything doesn't mean it can't be done

That seems like a poor reason not to study it

Where's those billions that ended up in Gore's pocket...fund it with that money...funding would last 100 years

Millions and millions spent world wide on this.
Let's get back into space and leave environmental pearl clutching to the experts.

Oh, let's study it all right. Just not on my tax money. If private industry sees a profit-making opportunity they'll take up the studying themselves. And that's how it should be in a capitalist economy.

Laugh all you want. It was a misuse of NASA funds. It was just basically a sideways way to fund things they couldn't get funded elsewhere

Then why’d you choose it as your opening line? We can’t do shite about 85% of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions, we aren’t in control of those nations. Let someone else waste money, taken from their citizens, studying shite that may or may not be a problem that they can’t do a damn thing about.

You have to be 8yrs old or retarded! Which is it? Damn, you are stupid!!!!

Fully funded already by cuts to pbs.

I'm starting to think maybe our government should contract out everything not deemed top secret. Would be good for private business and the government.
Let's remember, private business makes money, the government spends money, especially in a very inefficient way.

At least he's not golfing in Hawaii along with his wife's and daughters' entourage of dozens.

Give me 9 million and I'll help you.
That volcano in Hawaii is putting out more gases in one hour than industry does in a month.

Misuse of NASA's funds is politicians turning it into a political football and changing its focus every election cycle. We’re going to Mars! NASA has to stop what they are doing and spend billions pursuing this new goal. We’re going to the Moon! NASA has to stop what they are doing and spend billions pursuing this new goal. We’re going to an asteroid! NASA has to stop what they are doing and spend billions pursuing this new goal.

Al Gore ran for President in 2000, he filed a public financial disclosure report that revealed that his net worth was somewhere between $700,000 and $1.9 million

Al Gore thanks idiots like yourself.
