BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has unanimously approved the jersey retirement of LSU football All-American and former head coach Jerry Stovall. The jersey will be retired by LSU in a gameday ceremony during the 2018 football season in Tiger Stadium. The No. 21 worn by Stovall will join the No. 20 worn by Billy Cannon and the No. 37 worn by Tommy Casanova as retired jerseys in the LSU football program.

Let’s see how this thread goes.....
Pretty sure you can’t pull anything negative out of this

I think of Dalton Hilliard if you mention #21 and LSU.

It’s a shame we haven’t retired an African American’s jersey yet.

A few years ago I put together a short video with some highlights of Stovall's career:

I thinknit Is a shame that some people think more of his time as HC than the fact that he was an elite player here.
He is very deserving of it.
I see Faulk and Dorsey as potential retirees as well.
I feel Like prominence of the # is a factor. You can’t retire like 7. Idk

Not a fan of retired jerseys

This, I agree with.
Now as far as the #7 goes, might have a hard time staving off Patrick Peterson.

Three and done cuts down on possibilities, pretty sure they’re not going to do that for someone who didn’t graduate

Cool video. But, compare his overall stats to Hilliard's.
I know he played both ways and received accolades as much for defense as offense, but he had 5 total touchdowns in his career and barely over 1000 yards total rushing. Hilliard had 50 and 4000.
Seems they should have included both on the number retirement to me.

Does this mean the number is retired? I'd hate to lose 21 for future players, that's a badass number

He ABSOLUTELY deserves to be honored. However, I'm not a fan of "retiring" numbers when you have 100+ guys on the team. Put his name on the stadium (like Cannon and Cassanova), but let guys still wear 21

Hilliard's.
I'm pretty sure the criteria for retiring a number is the player must have graduated.

Feel bad for Stovall. Such a great Tiger and he has to have his legacy at LSU celebrated during a losing season under the worst coach in program history.

When you go from thread to thread with this same, tired, BS, you are worse than the extreme negatigers you keep complaining about. Give it a break.

I think you have to graduate to be considered.

Stovall's numbers reflect the way the game was still being played at the time. He might have won the Heisman in 1962 if LSU had beaten Ole Miss and if there had not been several other good players from the SEC in contention.
