(Boy) scouts is a dead organization. It just does not know it yet.

There is just so, so much fail in this thread. Especially with any comment after about 6pm....wonder why?

The reality is there's still gonna be families that support Scouts. Just like politics...its all local. Strong parents make a strong troop. All the naysayers and critics, who cares. The kids and parents alike know the value. If you've witnessed a group of kids figure out how to self-organize, learn life skills and have fun together, you can relate. Otherwise, GTFO.

Just hired an Eagle onto my team the first of the year. If an applicant at the Fortune 100 co I work for was female and was an Eagle scout, she would have an advantage over other applicants. That is the way of the world.

Well I have seen it all. The wussy progressives never cease to amaze. From the heterophobic diatribes to the "it's for the children" bullshite.

At least some of you don't know that nowadays the first achievement for a 5 year old boy in tiger cubs is to complete the sexual abuse awareness pamphlet that tears out of the front of the handbook. The dynamics of this are sickening, and there is somwthing WRONG WITH YOU if you disagree.

I'm an Eagle Scout. And the organization is nothing to me anymore.

The BSA in the Houston region are actually very strong. Our local Troops are extremely motivated and have a local presence. BSA in Texas is very strong actually.

That said, we have heard nothing of the name change. And, no female scouts yet......

If Girls Scouts actually developed a comprehensive program beyond selling ducking cookies, they might retain their members.

Here is what I already said. Looks like you have excellent reading comprehension as well.

Gotta love how feminism has turned into convincing women that they should attempt to be men, something they will inevitable always suck at due to biology, instead of actually empowering femininity and associated qualities such as compassion and emotional intelligence and motherhood.

Instead, they indirectly disparage those qualities by inferring such things are inferior and telling women that they can be just as strong and just as assertive, etc as men.

Yeah, it sounds like you’re saying being in the woods makes people pedophiles and child molesters.

Yeah. That "pamphlet" is for the parents. But why let facts get in the way.

It is a requirement for all leaders to complete Youth Protection annually.

I personally recommend that every parent completes it. And why not? Parents should be informed about what to look for in a troop/pack that has child safety as their number 1 concern. If I or another adult make a mistake, I absolutely want another adult to call me out on it to correct it right away.

Is your issue with society that this is a legitimate concern?
Is your issue with lawyers that child safety is the first part of being in scouts?
Or are you always bitter any time something changes?

The Boy Scouts allowed girls to join after receiving intense pressure from liberals and their media bulldogs. Now that girls have an option, the Girls Scout are in trouble. You can't make up stuff like this.

From section II of the youth protection pamphlet (the part that is SUPPOSED TO BE covered with the boy) as such:

quote:

Using This Booklet This booklet is divided into two sections. The first section is for your information. It contains information about child abuse and provides some tips to help parents talk with their Boy Scout–age sons about child abuse. The second section is for you to share with your son. Some of the activities listed in the second section are requirements your son needs your help to complete before he can join his Boy Scout troop.

So, onto the content from section II:

quote:

Jeff ’s Story
I am a 12-year-old boy in the sixth grade at my middle
school. Every afternoon after school, I go to a recreation center
until my mom gets home from work. One of the guys who
works at the center has been spending a lot of time with me
lately. He’s really nice, and he told me that he would teach me
how to wrestle. He said that wrestling would be a good sport
for me because it has different weight classes and I’m so small
I would be wrestling other kids my own size. I’ve got to admit
that I like to wrestle. But there’s something bothering me. This
guy who’s teaching me to wrestle wants me to come to the cen
-
ter on Sunday when no one else is there. He said that we would
have the place to ourselves, and he could really teach me a lot.
I’d like to, but I’ve been noticing that when he’s teaching me,
he holds me down and sometimes grabs me between the legs.
He makes like it’s a real funny joke, but I’m not so sure that I
like it.

quote:

Mario’s Story
I am a 13-year-old boy with a problem—my 17-year-old uncle,
Joe. Joe stays with me when my parents go out of town. The last
time, he started to act really strange. He wouldn’t let me out of
his sight. Even when I took a shower, he insisted that I keep the
bathroom door open. When I turned around, Joe was taking a
picture of me in the shower. He told me there wasn’t any film
in the camera and that it was a joke. I don’t think it was funny,
though. On the last night he was there, he told me to come into
his bedroom and watch TV with him—only it wasn’t TV, it was
sex stuff. He told me not to tell anyone because if I did he would
be in trouble
and so would I.

Yeah, those pesky facts, bro. What the hell is the matter with you?!

This. A lot of people don't get this point. Girl Scouts suck not scouts have fun.
As a former scout I would have liked to have girls especially in camp.

Fact 1. You referenced the 5 year old tiger cub.

quote:

The second section is for you to share with your son. Some of the activities listed in the second section are requirements your son needs your help to complete before he can join his Boy Scout troop.

Fact 2. You pull quotes from the Boy Scout handbook (for boys ages 11-18).

There is a section for a parent to discuss safety issues with their tiger cub. It is basically a Q&A between the parent and child. "What if one of your trusted adults is making you feel unsafe and uncomfortable?"
"What if a neighbor asks you to come into his house to see his new puppy"

Do you feel like those questions are inappropriate to ask a 5 year old who will be joining scouts?

Why are you so angry about this that you make shite up?

Do you always try to twist things to win some convoluted debate on the internet?

I hate mendacity, lies, and liars. I can deal with ignorance because sharing ideas works (and has for tens of thousands of years).
Are you a liar or ignorant about scouts?

I couldn't imagine anyone being so passionate about defending such a polluted organization. An organization based on wholesome values and innocent purity, yet so polluted that the first topics for the parent/son to discuss are about disgusting terrible situations that could arise from joining said organization. This applies for five year olds and eleven year olds. Basically, initiation into this "great" organization is to acknowledge that you may be involved with sickos. You're so hung up on being right, that you can't see the forest for the trees. Keep defending it.

Whatever, when I was a kid if I had a choice ( i didn't do girl scouts either)I would have picked boy scouts over girls. So this doesn't bother me. I think we tend to lump girls into this Barbie doll and unicorn box, and the ones that don't fit are left with nothing. Is it sad to see a change in an iconic brand, well yeah, but I don't think it should have been inclusive to just boys. Just my opinion.

Here's the problem, the boy that likes to play dress up and bake cookies with mom wouldnt be allowed in the girl scouts, so hes left with nothing. Bu yeah, frick the young men and boys of this country.
