Trying to determine if KA (and I am a fan) is worth the price difference from a Whirlpool

KitchenAid is what we spec in most of our homes. We have never had a call back/warranty issue in 6 years. They are not the flashiest, highest end appliances, but they have been solid for us.

I believe my repair guy saying Whirlpool is behind most brands

I have a brand new whirlpool. Will never own another. Had repaired 4 times and still broken.

I've seen a couple of negative posts about Samsung fridges here.

I've had 2, and the only reason I don't still have my original is Katrina trashed it.

Certainly agree. We had an LG washer and dryer. Never again. Have a Maytag now and it has been great. Wanted a Speed Queen but the way they had their doors set up on the dryer didn't work for our configuration at home.

Everything you listed is supposedly made by Whirlpool now. If you dig deep enough, you'll find that today's units use many of the same parts, regardless of the badge on the front door. I just bought a new fridge, and I went with the Whirlpool model, my parents have always had good luck with them, so we'll see. The unit we bought was on sale at Home Depot and we saved about $1000 over the comparable KA unit.

Having said all the above, my wife and I have always had Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Including her family. We've been married 41 years and have had two. The first lasted 30 years, and got put in the garage to be a drink cooler while a larger KA replaced it. That one lasted around 17 years, was still running but the compressor was dying. The first was an original Kitchen Aid, the 2nd one I assume was as well, but it didn't have the durability of the first. The first got trashed because the face where the door seal mates rusted out in the garage. Not unexpected. We replaced it with a Frigidaire.

Kitchen Aid and JennAir are the two top Whirlpool brands. KA is for the "chef" and Jennair is for the person who likes fancy things. KA is generally better but both are middle high end.


Whirlpool make somes Thermador fridges not made in Turkey.

Thermador is made by Bosch homie.

Just ordered a 36 in column Thermador.

Best dishwasher on the market FRGR.

any suggestion for a kenmore under cabinet icemaker thats not making ice?

no water supply or circulation issues, but the chiller plate is not cold at all

i'm not sure if its a board issue, compressor issue, fan issue, or refrigerant issue

i need to do some more diagnosing and pull it out to check the fan

it's less than 2 years old

Toyota Makes the Corolla
GM made the Chevy/Geo Prism, yet the Chevy Prism was a Corolla.

All viking or Sub zero fridges use whirlpool icemakers.

Just because one company owns another, does not mean they make everthing they own.

We replaced our suite of appliances with KA, even though they are made by Whirlpool. Just a notch more high end but Whirlpool is still legit. We ended up getting a 10% discount from Best Buy getting all KA too.
