Saints gave up way too much trading up for non-QB

This statement is about as ignorant as it gets.

First, he's implying you only make a trade like this for a QB which is nonsense. (And why would the Saints do it for the 5th QB taken???)

Second, a QB doesn't help us win a Super Bowl in the next 3 years. With our offense, the last thing the league wants to see is our defense get better. This pick does that.

Crack smoker this writer is.

PFF shows he was indeed produced at high levels in terms of sacks & pressures. It’s not always about sacks

Some people also thought ATL gave up too much to draft Julio Jones.

We gave up a mid 5th round pick, turned a 1st rounder into a higher 1st rounder, and gave up a future 1st. Honestly, the only "steep" thing we gave up was next year's first. If this is the guy the staff was sold on to be a game changer, like freeing up space for Cam and providing much needed depth and making plays of his own, and they felt they weren't going to get him where they currently were, then it's a good move. Let the talking heads talk, let our guys just do their job

I know they mostly played nobodies, but I think that he looked good against
Baylor: LINK

and TA&M: LINK

and people worried about his sack numbers, watch those two videos and you'll see that he played a lot of strong side DE, where players get fewer sack opportunities. He does a good job in the running game so I don't agree with the people saying that we will likely use him almost exclusively on 3rd down this season.

And not that it's a big deal since he won't do it often, but I saw some draft analyses saying that he struggled in coverage. He looked fairly fluid in his backpedal the few times he does it in those clips. He looks like he has the ability, he might just not have the mental aspects down yet.

From the same author that wrote this:

quote:

Stud: Marcus Davenport, EDGE, UTSA All you need to know about Marcus Davenport’s combine is that he put up numbers comparable to Ziggy Ansah and Jadeveon Clowney, who went No. 1 overall a few years back. Already red hot after smoking the competition at the Senior Bowl, Davenport showed up to the combine at 6-foot-6 and over 260 pounds. He ripped through the 40 in 4.58 seconds and put up a 1.63-second 10-yard split. Davenport also showed explosiveness with a 10-foot-4 broad jump and showed up extremely well on the field running drills. At this point, it seems like a foregone conclusion that Davenport has vaulted from fringe first-round pick into the top half of Round 1.

So which is it?

I’ll give this current staff the benefit of the doubt especially since Ireland came on. Before him we sucked at drafting
