Anyone own and/or have an opinion on Scotsman undercounter gourmet ice makers? I am thinking about getting one for my kitchen.

Seems like my dad is always having problems with his under-counter ice maker.

We have one. It works fine although the motor is a bit noisy when it’s running.

Great to have an ice machine in the house, but, keep the warranty updated.
That’s the only warranty I ever kept renewing, very glad I did..

I like the look of the ice, but that's an expensive ice maker. I finally had to buy a new one a few years ago and it was under a grand. The one I had originally was over 20 years old. The first one was a Whirlpool and the one now is Kitchen Aid. I believe it was about $800 and I spent another 3 to put a filter of some sort on the water line, so I didn't have to worry about changing any filters.

Parents have an ice maker.
Piece of shite cost like 2 grand and breaks down at least once a year
Dont do it
If you need lots of ice drive to the gas station and pay $2 for a bag
Most people dont need more than their in freezer ice maker

My parents have had a Scotsman nugget ice maker in their kitchen for about a year. They haven't had any problems with it and use it often. I am currently building a house and will be putting one in as well.

I have had one of these for the last 3 years without problems. It has indicators that will tell you when you need to run it through a cleaning or descaling cycle.
Two things that you can do to keep it running fine, always follow the machines prompts to clean it and never put anything in it to chill, like a wine bottle etc. The labels and their glue gums up the works and causes most of the problems people complain about.
Good luck.

I have a Hoshizaki under cabinet ice machine that bought 4 years ago. Never a problem with it.

I have this except it’s a 400 lb and it’s in the garage but they are the best made in my opinion. Mine is 14 years old and never had any problem.

I have a Hoshizaki under counter ice maker that makes "Sonic" ice. It is outside in my outdoor kitchen. I clean it monthly and haven't had one issue.
In my opinion, they are far superior to Scotsman.

I clean it monthly
Is that required or preference? I thought it was every six months or something like that. I haven’t cleaned mine yet after the installation and it’s coming up on six months. Am I going to die?
