Let's talk MLB expansion (again)

News broke last night that a Portland group pushing to build a 32,000 seat stadium, made 2 offers on properties with the hopes of building a stadium. Easiest route is to try to lure the A's out of Oakland. But Rob Manfred seems keen on future expansion teams.

Portland and Charlotte have been talked about for years. With 32 teams, you can organize into 4 divisions with 4 teams.
I think the most logical route with minimal disruption would be...
AL West
Seattle Mariners
Portland Needles
Oakland A's
Los Angeles Angels
AL Central
Colorado Rockies
Houston Astros
Kansas City Royals
Texas Rangers
AL North
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins
AL East
Boston Red Sox
Baltimore Orioles
New York Yankees
Toronto Blue Jays
NL West
Arizona Diamondbacks
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants
NL Central
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
Milwaukee Brewers
St. Louis Cardinals
NL North
New York Mets
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
Washington Nationals
NL East
Atlanta Braves
Charlotte ?
Miami Marlins
Tampa Bay Rays
Obviously the disruption here is that the Rockies and Rays swap leagues but as more recent expansion teams, they've got less history in their current leagues. I don't think the balances of power are tilted in favor of any one team in those divisions. They all seem pretty evenly matched from a market and financial standpoint. One exception being the hypothetical NL East if the Florida teams continue to tank and the Charlotte expansion struggles.

Would this get rid of the wild card?

Likely would. I'd guess you'd have the division winners seeded. 1v4 2v3

DH in Coors Field every game would be LIT

With the NHL and NHL moving to Vegas, I wouldn't doubt Vegas be in the mix at some point.

Yeah I think Vegas gets involved one way or another. Either as an expansion franchise or luring the A's away. I don't think the A's are going to find a long term solution in Oakland

Portland Hipsters vs. Charlotte Michael Jordans

Of course there's also the logic of giving the middle finger to tradition and just regionalizing the hell out of it.

LA Dodgers
San Diego
Arizona
Texas
Houston
Colorado
Kansas City
Minnesota
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Milwaukee
St. Louis
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Detroit
New York Mets
New York Yankees
Boston
Toronto
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
Baltimore
Washington
Atlanta
Charlotte
Miami
Tampa
Seattle
Portland
Oakland
San Francisco
LA Angels
LA Dodgers
San Diego
Arizona
Texas
Houston
Colorado
Kansas City
Minnesota
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Milwaukee
St. Louis
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Detroit

That would be funny because Vegas lured the Raiders away from Oakland

I would have no problem with this.

Vegas wouldn't be a good city for baseball. There is no surrounding towns or population. The 2 million in the greater metro area is it for 100s of miles.

We need more teams on western side of the U.S. Would also be nice to get rid of the wild card and would make bigger rivalries in the divisions.

Kingwood? Hijack here but where you watching the pels tomorrow?
Posted on 4/18/18 at 7:41 pm to bigberg2000
I just watch at home. Have to get to work too early in the morning, and all my buddies over here are going for the rockets.
Posted on 4/18/18 at 7:47 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
Would Salt Lake City be an option?
Posted on 4/18/18 at 7:50 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
I will probably be at Mojos or something.
Posted on 4/18/18 at 7:55 pm to Lsuhoohoo
The NL East would be such a shitty division.
Posted on 4/18/18 at 8:09 pm to Lsuhoohoo
If i had to guess they would go the NFL route and have 4 division winners and 2 wild cards with 2 byes, maybe do best of 3 for wild card round or something
Wild card round - best of 3
Divisional round - best of 5
LCS - best of 7
World Series - best of 7

Maybe I'm old school, but I'd rather fewer divisions. Makes winning a pennant a little more worthwhile.
Inevitably, one or more of these 8 team division winners will have a losing record.
