Well, we could keep the military and get rid of about 80% of the rest of the BS the government spends out tax money on.

We could EASILY halve the defense budget. That would mean we might have to stop trying to control the world and instead defend our own country.....

You say that but the upcoming war with russia and china could change that. You heard it here first.

Military spending needs to be drastically cut. Throwing more money at something isn't always going to fix it. The way the contracts are run leads to cronyism and is terribly inefficient.

It's nowhere close to being half of your taxes.
If half of your taxes covers a TV then you need to re-think your line of work and get yourself above minimum wage.

nah, it's called not letting the army spend 5k on a basic battery charger.

Think of it as a jobs program with some very nice and important added benefits... like a very efficient killing force that employs a lot of folks that otherwise wouldn't have a chance in the workforce out of high school.

OT always talks about welders, put these baws to work.
even if we cut spending by half we still are #1

Military makes up but a portion of nearly 6 trillion dollar budget.
We have a spending problem

Yet trump is drastically increasing it while giving large corporate tax cuts and just adding it all on top of our already huge debt.
Don't worry about it though says trump, the American taxpayer can just pay for it with interest through higher taxes when he is gone and the Dems are back in power and have to clean up his mess. Sorta brilliant really. Cut taxes, spend more, blow up the debt, then blame the Dems for raising taxes to pay for all of it in a couple of years.

Military spending is about 1/6th our budget. Doesn't seem like an unreasonable slice of the pie, unfortunately the pie is so big Gravy couldn't eat it all in one sitting.
Everything needs to be cut.
Everything needs to be cut.

Only way I'd agree with cutting defense spending if that if all other nations we have historically protected agree to pay back the money we've spent on their protection as well as reduce the level of support we give to NATO and UN for peacekeeping...in other words drop our "Policemen of the World" responsibility. Only if those happen can we drop our defense/military budget.

Welfare is a laughably small amount of the US budget, but it likes to get thrown around.

Focus on actual soldiers(because offering the military as a way out of poverty to young men/women as well as a ticket to college eductation is a win/win form of welfare), airpower(including unmanned), and nukes. The rest can take a seat.
eta: ah shite I forgot the Coast Guard. They are cool and most underrated branch, particularly in civilian rescues. Keep them.
