Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) released documents finding that Mnuchin spent almost $1 million on military aircraft trips between the spring and fall of 2017. The Treasury Department pushed back on CREW’s findings, saying they included mischaracterizations and falsehoods.

Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee last week urged the panel’s chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), to hold hearings on travel by Trump administration officials, citing the CREW report as an example of questionable travel costs.

The documents show that Mnuchin spent about $1.2 million on travel in fiscal 2017, which ended Sept. 30

Mnuchin’s 2017 travel spending is significantly less than the $3.2 million that former President Obama’s last Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, spent on travel in fiscal 2016

Libs said we can't use "what about" comparisons though. Each Trump cabinet member has to be evaluated in a vacuum to maximize outrage.

A classic example of what the idiotic left will label a whatoboutism if you bring up the fact that yes that's a lot of money for travel , but the last guy actually spend double that.

I don't know whether his travel expenses were high or not, but FY 2017 started on 10/01/16 and he wasn't confirmed until 02/13/17--136 days or about 37% into the fiscal year.

So it's a decieving comparison.

To which the left replied "did you think I said Travel Secretary? No silly, i meant something else. I'll get back to you on who we wanted you to look into"

Of course. The obama admin spent like crazy on stuff like this but nobody even gave it a second thought but the Trump team is expected to save every penny or there is total outrage. The double standard never ceases to amaze me

They actually mention that in the article.

Doesn't fit the narrative though, so you gotta expect some misdirection.

Only if you can't do basic math and determine that his monthly average was far less than the previous Secretary, and like you I have no idea if that number is high or not, It sounds high, but how much traveling must the Sec of Treasury do?

And I don't even know if what a reasonable transition period is before traveling becomes more of a job function.

I would like to know what his expenses are and the trend up to this point before making any judgements. I think it's all a bit decieving on both sides without more information.

Edit: Nevermind the OP was more decieving; the article provided more information.

He has spent $781,000 so far in fiscal 2018.
It doesn't seem like exteme to me though based on all this.

37% of 3.2 million is 1.2 million.

Sounds like they are both equally wasteful.

Did Jack Lew request military aircraft to take his wife on a European vacation the way the Mnuchin did for his European honeymoon?

Libs tried to shut down all talk of Obama's administration spending a lot.. then after they left office, libs used "well Obama administration isn't in office now, so it doesn't matter ", to shut down any criticism.

Msm did the same shite with hillbitch. Refused to acknowledge anything negative about her.. for years. Then after she lost the election.. still refused to really acknowledge anything negative about her..by saying "well, Hillary lost, so no need to discuss those things".

Libs and msm do that childish shite, in an effort to perpetually shut down all negative talk about their a-hole heroes.
