Moving there at the end of the month and have a home finding trip this week to look at some places.
We've been told to avoid South Dallas, but that seems a bit too general.
The houses (5) we'll be looking at this week are all in Plano, Garland and Mesquite.

Looking for a 20-35 minutes morning (~6:30AM) commute to the office, which is 5 miles North of downtown.

Not too concerned about schools, mainly safety.

So basically which cities of the metroplex should be avoided

Try Southlake or maybe HP/UP. Stay away from Ennis and Addison

I'd stay away from Mesquite. If you don't mind me asking, what prove range are you looking in? There's some really nice areas in Garland and there are some places that you don't want to go near. Part of it is all Asian and English isn't spoken in that part of town, and some of it is ghetto dangerous. Where exactly are you working? 10 miles one way can be 15 minutes and 10 miles the other way could be 45.

Generally, I'd look in Richardson, Plano, Garland (again depending on budget) or maybe somewhere like Farmers Branch. The thing is there's really nice areas in every "city" so you really just have to know exactly where you are looking and all the cities kind of run together.

You should look in the M-Streets/Lakewood area. We lived there for many years & would move back there in a heartbeat. It's gotta be close to your office because this area is about 5 miles north of Downtown Dallas.

I visited a friend in Plano for a few days last year and I was impressed with how clean the city was. Everywhere we went was just as clean as the last. Plus no bums on the corners selling papers.

We live in Frisco.. moved here in 93. Love it. Would be pushing 30 min commute at 6:30 town tollway.. maybe 40?

Don't know much about Garland.. Mesquite has bad areas from what I have heard. Both Garland and Mesquite are older burbs

Why not look 5 miles north of downtown? Nice area. Ross Perot, mark Cuban and George Bush live 5 miles north of downtown
