For a new "transit" program in Nashville to include trains. I don't know if this is news outside of Nashville but a proposed $5.4 billion tax increase for the city and the citizens and visitors is trying to get passed by a vote here soon. Projected cost is $9B.

Ads from the proponents of this new Transit plan have been running for months.

The latest ad this morning changes subtly to include a couple of Nashville Predator hockey players stuck in traffic where they get out and start skating to their destination. Not one mention of the train is included in this ad, but by voting for the plan " the traffic signals will also be synchronized"!!!

WHAT?!!!

So we need a tax to change the traffic signal patterns that have been created by the same people who want to raise the tax by at least $5.4 billion?

Oh. My. Goodness. Stupid. People.

PS. It will take at least 10 yrs to complete, TYING UP TRAFFIC during that decade.

Tldr version: Nashville government is proposing raising tax of $5.4 billion to synchronize traffic lights and add a worthless train system.

Eta CRUSHED!
Nashville voters kill tax plan!

I know that Nashville is booming and that traffic is unbearable - public transport seems like a no brainer... but why is the cost so high? They must be going underground or something for that amount of money.

It’s a boondoggle like all the rest. And it will never only cost $9B, once they start, prices will skyrocket not unlike the Cali high speed train

I'm all for it! ETA, I don't currently live there, but am planning on a move somewhere around the 10 year mark.

Above ground I'm thinking because of rock. It's a ploy. It would make the city one of, if not the highest sales taxed cities. And add highest tourist taxed cities. The train solves nothing that buses would solve. Problem is no one takes the bus.

It's a boondoggle that will contribute to the slow death of the city.

costs aren't high enough and traffic isn't bad enough for most people to consider riding with a bus full of strangers for an hour.

Nashville is great. There half a dozen rural areas within 20 or 25 minutes of downtown. I drive into downtown at all hours of the day and rarely takes me more than 30 minutes

FWIW, this new light rail is highlighted in blue and takes the path through the poor neighborhoods, not where heavy traffic flow is currently.

The green line indicates changes to the bus system.

The heavy traffic is on the interstates. Nothing is done to offer solution there.

Nashville sucks shite. Its full of California libz and mexicans. Libz are about to put in underground train which no one will ride and its becoming pretty common to see homos sucking each other off in back alleys. Nashville encourages it. Dont come.

Bro...I live west of Nashville. That commute that you were talking about, that I love, how long you think it will stay that way? You are doing it wrong.

Extremely business friendly city with several business friendly towns and counties on the perimeter. Nashville lives bigger than its actual size IMO. I've lived here for a long time and it's still at the top of my list.

Growing fast right now, and unfortunately that means people from the coasts are fleeing their hell holes for Nashville. It's still a great town for the time being.
