Whatever happened to the planned dredging of University & City Park Lakes?

They had talked about this 5 years ago or so in order to deepen the lakes and prevent more fish kills and such. I thought it had gone out to bid.
Anyone heard word on this lately?

No state matching funds.

That will be a total shitshow if it happens. Please don't ruin or make unsightly one of the only pretty things in Baton Rouge.

The train to downtown took the funds.
Oh wait.

The plans the land scape firm were pretty impressive. The company that won the bid did buffalo bayou in Houston which was one my favorite parks prior to Harvey. Still really nice but scars all over.
The “lake” is basically just a wet land that is losing more and more water every year

SWB funnelled the funds to midnight basketball games, catered lunches and WIFI connection for Gravy.

Maybe we could get Gravy to solicit donations to cover the costs?

dude. the lake is like 6 inches deep throughout. For its health, dredging and improvement is necessary. We are not talking about a naturally occurring lake that shouldn't be touched by man.

There were no bids taken because there's no money to do the work.

They cleared out the university lakes when I was a kid - mid- to late-70s.
They left all the debris piled up for what seemed like 2-3 years.

They need to organize 2-3 group discussions about this. Then hire two agencies to look into cost, then say no money is in the budget

Can we dredge the lakes and use the dirt to build a loop?
Posted on 4/5/18 at 6:20 pm to TigerBR1111
IIRC, too many stumps, and it would just fill back in

Funds diverted to statue removals.

It’s a pretty big project

Don’t worry - BRAF is on the case.
So it will never happen.
