But there's nothing behind them. Why not try it, since it's highly unlikely someone would win the very first race anyway? Do you mean to tell me that with their army from the corporation that they wouldn't have instructed a single person to not try that?
What? There was literally a giant wall behind them. This wasn’t a loop. It was point A to B race. A trap door opened the last second. The only reason to go in reverse would be out of frustration to just slam into the wall. Since shite costs actual money in the oasis no one would want to just piss away money.

You never tried that with Mario Kart?
Not familiar with that, probably way after my time. There was an arcade game called Pole Position I used play in the 80s never tried to drive backwards though

Just simple curiosity even if there weren’t any stakes would be enough to break this test, and I do think you would be intelligent enough to solve it rather quickly
I appreciate the confidence like I said I haven’t been a gamer in a long long time. I hadn’t thought about cheats in just as long, like Track and Field in the javelin if you pressed and held the button down it would throw the javelin straight up and kill a bird. Someone told or showed me that, so perhaps you’re right someone would have figured it out sooner, but that’s a minor quibble imo, especially compared to the other flaws you mentioned

They're in a video game. Apparent walls are meaningless. My god, this mind stumping puzzle that took people 5 years to figure out was in Super Mario 64: LINK
There's no defending this.

And yet no one would try something that was used in the first major 3D game? 5 years to figure something that out most 8 year olds did.

If it cost people say 20 dollars every time they ran into the wall how long do you think it would take? Dude was scrapping up money to put gas in his damn car.
You keep trying to shoe horn this into video games. This wasn’t just video games to these people it was real life to them. Hence the moral of the damn ending.

Sure there is, like Freaux said the Suspension of Disbelief. I mean your calling foul on this but the the entire premise doesn’t bother you? Forget how poorly the movie does of explaining why IOI is “evil”, there’s no Al Qeda in 2045? No North Korea or Russian hackers to worry about? He has no relatives at all, 2nd cousins that would challenge the will?

Less than 24 hours, especially from the corporation.

Ummm, people spend shite tons of money on games. Let me introduce you to Cally, the biggest dick in the history of gaming who exonerated like 200K from the community and then posted a video about how much of a bunch of dumb fricks they were when he broke the game EVE and how he basically stole everything from them: LINK
This is what we'd be dealing with here, where "reverse" wouldn't have fooled anyone. It wouldn't have lasted the first race.

Well that probably wouldn’t be an issue for the #2 Corporation in the world

Not really, because the internet actually is bringing the world closer together where the populace wouldn't put up with this. I'm guessing in the Oasis you can meet your buddy in Beijing for some snowskiing and then get drunk together at a bar and bullshite. I'm sure there are still terrorists (which could be good sequel territory), but the Oasis actually provides less barriers to where I think that's actually a fairly realistic portion of it.
What wasn't realistic is that all these people lived in fricking Columbus Ohio. I'd say the chances of that are pretty much zero. They'd be all over the country/globe, as I understand was the case in the books.

Also, another YouTube reviewer pointed this out for me, but not a single furry? I find that exceptionally hard to believe. Even normal people would be doing that shite, like say to literally fly and then just make their avatar an eagle like being, or a cheetah to run extremely fast. That was a big oversight. At least 10% of the people should have been furrys.
Posted on 4/9/18 at 7:48 pm to OMLandshark
Yeah...everyone was screaming about the lack of furry's after the movie. I am incensed.

It doesn't piss me off, but knowing the internet, it seems like a very missed opportunity.

Sorry Mario. Your furries were in another castle.

This nerd isn’t going to stop complaining.
Big difference between how people play:
- arcade games or pay games compared to unlimited lives games.
- race car games, even games like Mario cart with extra features
- open world games, this was a racing game not GTA, Skyrim, etc
The point, the theme, the fun, feel good, family movie, he missed out on.

Saw this last night.
I've read the book and despite its terrible writing and obsessive reference dropping, the overall story was enough to keep me engaged. I liked the plot more than the references.
However, the movie was opposite for me. I didn't care for the plot or the character decelopment and the references were the only things that made it worthwhile.
This did not feel like a Spielberg movie to me. He usually nails character development (especially in a group dynamic), but the characters in this movie were flat and soulless to me.

Bro. How much does it suck to hate everything?

The movie rushed through a lot and did a poor job explaining the extremely high stakes and significant outcome of the hunt. All the characters and everything only happening in Columbus, Ohio made it all feel too local
Just got out. I liked the movie.
In order to put the level of attention into the world the book creates, you need two things:
- Time
- An endless supply of people willing to license their IP to you.
You’re not getting both of those in a two hour movie.
For what it was, I enjoyed it and thought Spielberg did a serviceable job and created an enjoyable movie. But the only way to build this work in the scale it is in the book is to do a miniseries. And let’s be honest, the middle of the book drags on for a good while.

Saw it yesterday and parts I liked and parts I was glad I was by myself because I was hiding in my seat from the cringe.
Chucky was my favorite part.
Outside of some language it was a good kids movie.

my god you come across as a miserable frick. not every movie has to be a flawless piece of work - just enjoy it for what it is, and stop overthinking shite. I mean if your gonna spend the money to go see a film, i would think you'd try and enjoy it somewhat otherwise what is the point?
it is not a perfect film. it has its issues - as does all films, but it is not a terrible film by any stretch.
