Well, the problem is THEY (the Census bureau) think they have the force of law for this crap. Plus, it's wasted money (our money) to try to do this social engineering crap with the census.

If these other companies, or heck, government agencies want to do these surveys, let them do it - keep it out of the census which is a rare example of something the Constitution ACTUALLY requires the government to do - unlike about 90% of what it does which is without Constitutional authority.

What's with the blatant stupidity today?

Gun ownership has nothing to do with the census.
I bet you thought this was clever.

I believe this is false. They CAN ask, but they are not mandated. Otherwise, why have many of us never had this question ask at any of our appointments?

Yes, the question was on form at wellness exam...my husband and I both skipped the question. The doctor still completed our exams.

Just because a question appears on a form, doesn’t mandate a response.

If I remember this was a big push about 5 years ago or more, but many states passed laws banning doctors from asking such questions, other states banned those questions unless they were medically necessary, etc.

I did have a doctor ask me such a questions during a physical when he ask if I was regularly seeing an eye doctor, dentist, etc. He asked if I owned any guns. I told him yes, and asked him if he wanted to see one. He moved on to the next question.

lol PCPs most certainly are not required to ask that question. Maybe they just ask you because you are someone who causes concern over mental health?

If that showed up on a Census my answers would be easy:

No

No

The point of the census is lost on morons, like yourself.

Hint, it's not to gather intel on the citizens of this country.

I live in a community where most people own guns. When all the ACA stuff went into effect, the new forms, etc., they asked my wife and they asked me. When they asked me, the tech even said, "I don't know why they put this on these forms." So, it was some new requirement. I think revisions since then may have stopped them from recording the answers, but they were asking during the implementation phase of the ACA and some providers at least felt it was a mandated question.

Hell, I saw the tech read it off the database form as she was entering my information. So, I know it was in there initially.

Just because something falls outside the scope of a census doesn't mean it's unconstitutional.

I wish people would stop arguing non points.

The Constitution only speaks to Congress passing no law which prevents the ownership of firearms. The government asking if you have firearms certainly wouldn't do that.

You can't just use "unconstitutional" any time the government does something you don't like, that's what the pathetic left does.

Mine has never once asked me.

I don't see a path to adding a guns-related question to the census, as it has nothing whatsoever to do with the scope of the census.

The point stands however, that once again we see Trump made a tactical mistake because he insists on drawing attention to these types of things. You don't announce something like this 2 years in advance, you simple do it. And what's more, his 2020 campaign staff came out making it political. Trump does this all the time, and he does it b/c he wants accolades from his base, but he's gotta get over his ego and just do this stuff the way every other President has done it, quietly and just as a matter of course. Let liberals find out there is a citizenship question on the form when they actually receive the form.
