I have a sub we use for directional boring and just last year had to bring a few temp employees to get through the summer. We do what we need to keep profits as high as possible yet retain everyone we want.

That's what sick days are for.

That would be short or long term disability.

what sort of construction are you in? Just curious at this point.

honestly female related situation.
Being a parent is a female related thing? I agree that companies definitely frown upon it, but your last statement is silly.

Just because the company doesn't fall to pieces in your absence doesn't mean the company should just cut you like dead weight like Jake said.

My point entirely. The position exists for a reason. If 2 jobs could be done by 1 person for cheaper, they'd have 1 position

I have been involved with some tower work in the past. Not erection :giggidy: but cabling.
After being involved with a few companies that keep 3-4 times the employees we have and are close in revenue, its amazing to me that they stay in business with the amount of overhead they have.

When my twins were born last year I got four weeks off paid paternity leave. I stayed home for the first month and just helped wifey do baby stuff.
Yea people without twins wouldn't understand how those little rug rats straight up wear you out. It's very difficult for one parent to handle twins. I know most of the dudes in here would flip their shite when they both start crying at the same time

It may not be what you are used to or learned but it works for us.
I had to learn the hard way of working myself into the ground because that's how I approached it at first. I was making lots of money but neglected my health in the process. That work/life balance no longer works for me, but I applaud you for maintaining it because it isn't easy. I see many who do that, I just wouldn't want all the extra stress.

So lots of people work for shitty companies and aren’t up to date on benefits it sounds like. Mine gives 8 weeks paid leave whether you are mom or dad which started in 2017. Management encourages us to use it and all supervisors have to work with you on it. I believe it must be taken in 1-2 week increments so you can’t just take every Friday off for 40 weeks. Works with adoption too. We said we weren’t having anymore kids but this has made me rethink it a little. My friend at work had a baby in the fall and is taking 1 week a month for 8 months. His boss also had a baby and is doing the same. It’s a pain for certain positions but in the age of non binary transgenders this seems like a reasonable benefit that will become the norm eventually.

It depends and you can usually burn your sick time before flipping to disability to maximize your benefits.
I just think the notion that people receive benefits but aren’t going to take them is ridiculous.

If a guy takes off eight weeks then I would say he forfeits his man card.

Taking paternity leave won't be the nail in the coffin. It'd be because the employee wasn't worth keeping for other reasons.

Blanket statement.
Companies aren't paying 2 mid level employees for the same job. Let's face it, bloat is in the executive levels and executives aren't posting here.

Most large companies (which are the ones that tend to offer paid paternity leave) have a lot better ways of figuring out who is bloat than anything tied to paternity leave. That’s especially true since firing a bunch of guys who took paternity leave at least possibly opens the door to a suit for discrimination based on family status.
If you do good work and put in the hours normally, there is no reason to be a miser about vacation/paternity leave. Those benefits are part of your compensation.

One day we will look back and reflect on how behind other companies were on this policy. With the new generation, work/life balance is more important than with the baby boomers. Your company is a pioneer on the matter.

The stress is there but I love it and really don't work long hours. We have a system and it works. I get to the office around 6am and leave most days by 3pm and I work less than a half day on Fridays. I pick up my daughter from day care every day and spend the afternoon just me and her until my wife gets home. Of course my phone is always on but I can handle most everything remotely except for face to face customer meetings.

Agreed. The benefits wouldn't be offered if you couldn't take them. If someone is worried that taking paternity leave will get them fired down the line, they aren't good stuff their job.
