I know you're a very knowledgeable guy about aviation so I have to ask you is the idea about a two engined 747 using those kind of engines and the gears being jacked up really that far fetched of an idea?

The 777 may be an awesome plane and is definitely the future of long haul VLA travel but I will always have a place in my heart for the Queen of the Skies and as bad as United has went down the shitter recently, I did everything I could to snag one last flight on their 747s before they retired. Domestic flight. San Fran to Orlando. 10/10 would recommend.

Well, for the third time, I'm not the one that presented the 747 as if it were the "777x", hence causing the 777 engine to "look amazingly and comically huge" on a plane it doesn't even go on, a plane that has 4 smaller engines vs 2 larger ones. You are rather dense, aren't you.

I've read in an aviation mag before that the GE-90 for the 300er can power up to like 3 Titanic sized ships. No idea if that claim was bullshite or not but I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

Can't wait to get window seats and see the ge9x in action though it'll be a year or two after launch before I can do that.

Drag?

Depending on the exact model of the other engines, that 777X can spit out more thrust than those two combined, and is certainly in the ballpark.

More likely they killed the port engine, and let the experimental take the full side, and used the methods you described to fine tune.

Even with the newest engines, having only two would be a challenge for the newer 747-8 models which are heavy planes.

A lot of engineering would needed for updated wing design, landing gear design and recertification. That is a lot of effort and money on a (updated) old frame design.

I too love the 747 but the latest 777 has near the same capacity while being much more efficient.

I think I remember that while Boeing did do a lot to update the wing design and re-engine to accommodate the stretch of the new 747 intercontinental, they really didn't do much else besides that like in the interior of the plane. It's still using the same cockpit of the 400 model while the newer planes like the 787, 737 max and 777x all have glass cockpits that are completely digitalized. It has a shite ton of criminality of the 400 model.

The 747-8 was only a hedge against the A380 and to hold themselves over to the 777x which would and is killing the A380.

I think I heard some sources close to Airbus say that if Emirates decides not to order more A380, they're going to shut down the program.

The F35 taint lickers have informed me that the F35 will indeed be able to take over the mission of the 777 and 747. So those new engines are not needed.

F35 replaces them all. It's like a gift from God himself.

It's also going to fix climate change too with it's sensor fusion. All praise the F35.
