Where does the $6M bonus from last year or w.e come into play?

Ironic that the next thread is Brees putting the team above his bank account

Well this explains why we haven't made any moves

Drew Brees is now set to count $33.5M against the Saints' salary cap in 2019

Anyone want more proof we are going to get a QB in the draft?

Still like this deal, Chad???
24 of our 32 cap space right here.
I know Drew supposedly had better offers which he never was going to take but I was hoping he would have helped the team more.
After all he has earned close to 200 million as a professional QB and he has said winning is more important. But he still took his money.

No, technically 6 already counted so this is only +18

Using @spotrac as my reference, the Saints have around $10 million left under the salary cap. I’m including Coleman’s deal (not on the site). The site also includes estimated cap costs for each draft pick.

With Coleman & Brees in now I’ve got the #Saints at $9.8M (Top 51)

They can make some moves to create more space if needed

Cut Banjo and Hooman and do something with Morestead 4.25 number.

Well, looks like Drew really did a ton to help this team have flexibilty and get better.
I wish people would stop stating how much he cares about winning. I am not saying he doesn’t care, but Drew is and has always been about Drew. Nothing wrong with it, but don’t try to act like he isn’t for some faux image.

It’s interesting how some posters are so sure what should’ve done with other people’s money

Drew gave the OK for the 2nd year to be a TEAM option when other QB's who have done nothing are signing fully guaranteed deals. What more could you ask of the guy?
Loomis has plenty of flexibility within current contracts to manipulate the cap as needed....just like he has always done.

Plus he was reportedly offered 2 year 60 mill all guaranteed and turned it down. He could have held the Saints feet to that fire and what would we have done? Signed Cousins?
This fan base has become increasingly fickle whiners. No matter what happens people bitch. It is often the same people every time too. I guess it makes them internet edgy to be "that guy". However when you are always "that guy" you just become an insufferable titty-baby.

Breaking this down it seems like:
The signing bonus is not spread over the old contract and instead just the 2 new years. So $5.25 mil in signing bonus this year and next year.
The cap hit includes the previous $6 mil, meaning this only adds $18 mil to the cap, so we'd be around $12 mil in space.
Not all of the incentives are Likely to be Earned, but most are. Roughly $2.5 of it is LtbE, while $750k is Not LtbE.
All in all not bad and it leaves room for another 3-4 good FAs if we structure it right (and want to sign that many).
