Overpass, Midcity, downtown, tigerland
Just because the nightlife trends have changed since the 70s and 80s doesn’t mean its dead.
You’re just too old to get it I guess

This is probably a lot of it, that and people have become prudish.
I don't think prudish (at least among young people) is the problem. Back before cell phones and social media, cliques had set meet up places on different days because once people left the house, they couldn't be contacted, and they couldn't blow off plans at the last minute. A group might meet up at The Library on Mondays, The Flying Tiger on Tuesdays, Sports on Saturdays, etc. Teens would do the same thing at the Mall or a given parking lot.
They can just text each other and find each other now. They don't have to have a set meet up spot.

Smokey dance floors have now been replaced patio decorated with succulents at beergartens and farm to table gastropubs.
And rather than asking someone to dance, thus meeting new people of the opposite sex, you end up perusing the internet, googling beers, so as to sound cultured and informed when you order your next micro brew and impress the ladies at the table next to you.
What takes a hit is our social skills because we rarely exercise it anymore. It’s no great wonder people don’t know how to talk to one another anymore.

Except for LSU bars, I’m there all the time, and it’s bullshite. Try again.

This straight up isn't true. There are more than one kind of bar:
Sports bars (Walk-On's, Happy's, Plucker's, BWW's)
live music venues (The Varsity, B&T's, Spanish Moon)
dance clubs (Club 1913, Bogies, Fred's, JL's)
restaurant bars (Curbside, Merchant, Zippy's)
pups for conversations (Bulldog, Radio Bar, Bengal Tap Room, The Cove)
There's different kinds of bars for different kinds of experiences. People who want to dance and grind on chicks have their bars. People who want to chill out in a booth and unwind with friends have their place, people who just want to listen to a band have their place. Different strokes for different folks.

Ah I see...this thread is because no one dances when they go out
Well the Dirty Dancing and Saturday Night Fever times died a long time ago.
Sorry you can’t keep up with the times. Maybe try the bingo halls and ballroom dancing classes.

That sounds incredibly boring...

I wouldn't call happys a sportsbar. I'd put it in your last category.

At 40 I don't really desire going to a club with blaring music. At 21 that was the place to be. Granted, we went out to meet women. Alcohol and lower inhibitions probably explains why we had more sex than the younger generation too.

Mostly I agree, though a loud place can still be fun. I do still prefer places that are rather informal and you an get a bit wild if you want though.

That and MeToo making flirting too risky when it's not already a sure thing.

Yeah, there’s a few spots here and there, and I’m familiar with them all, but it pales in comparison to the nightlife I’m talking about in numbers of places and people out on the town alone, and granted, our option were comprised of staying home and watching frickin He Haw or some other abysmal TV viewing, or getting out, but the fact remains that the nightlife in this city is pathetic in comparison. But then back in my day being punished from going outside was a real punishment. Today, kids would prefer to be inside playing video games. I have to believe this is our society’s technological Achilles. It shows in our nightlife as well now, as they would still prefer staying inside playing video games and getting high than going out and really socializing the way social creatures are accustomed to.

Nothing. You just got old

Casino's have really hurt the club business. Look at the state of Texas. Austin night life would change for the worse if Texas ever legalized gambling. This is just an example. I have been in the club business for 40 years and things have not changed for the better. Most of the middle class has moved to the outlying areas and people don't want to risk coming back into town. People generally only go out for special events now. The days of going out every night are over. I was fortunate to be in the club business in the golden years.

you have a valid point about dancing for older people, but there is arguably too many places to get a drink for the post college crowd(near LSU's side of town)

"Let's get together. At the Texas Club"
I can't believe that place is still around being in mall city.
