What's with the pine straw ring around the coop? Any purpose or just for looks?
That was back a few weeks ago when we had a bunch of rain and t was real muddy around the coop where we had beeen walking, pine straw was just to keep us from slipping and making things worse
Most days we let them out to “free range” all day and put them back up at night to roost

I had a small one that was on sale at Costco that was actually for our pet rabbit.
Something killed it and we got chickens.
Built this soon after.

Get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. drill holes in the bottom and add those little rabbit bottle drippers into the bottom
good suggestion. Or get a waterer thats rounded at the top so they cant stand on it. Got one from tractor supply.

My best advice to you is to not get chickens. Believe me, you will regret it. They are a pain in the arse.
1. They shite. All. The. Time.
2. They eat. All. The. Time.
3. They stink, especially when it rains and the ground gets wet. Have you ever smelled wet chicken shite?
4. Your neighbors will hate you.
5. Your neighbors will smell the chicken shite every time it rains.
6. You will smell the chicken shite every time it rains.
7. You have to let those frickers out daily. I hope you have a way to contain them, because your neighbors will expect free eggs for allowing them to graze in their yards.
8. Have you ever tried catching a rogue chicken?
9. Chickens are fast little fricks. And they have wings.
10. Chickens are higher maintenance than a Kardashian.

The girlfriend has 13 chickens, you pretty much nailed it with this.
They would be fine in acreage, but suck in a neighborhood.
Worst part is the shite and the smell.
They are fun to watch though.

I'm only doing 4-5 hens. Hoping I can keep up with the smell with a small flock. Guess I will find out soon enough.

We have 4 and I would like to get 2 more.
The only issue we have with them is digging up plants in the flower beds when we let the out of the run. Any smell can be mitigated with dehydrated lime.

I tried this. The local fox had a field day. Bastard killed every hen I had for fun.

That's pretty reasonable. That shouldn't make too big of a mess. I've started hitting them with the hose when they come on concrete. It seems to be working, WAY less to shite on the patio than before.
She has two roosters, bastards crow from 4:30 in the morning until dark. A few times a day wood be fine, but they don't stop.
Don't get roosters.
