Trump has admitted to/bragged about sex outside of marriage. That is where the hypocrisy is.
Actually, hypocrisy would occur if I were to criticize Trump for having sex outside of marriage because it was immoral while I myself were having sex outside of marriage.
Saying "I think that sex outside of marriage is wrong" yet voting for Trump is not hypocrisy. It might be a double standard, but if you want to go that route, given the two choices, which double standard were you to choose?

quote:Well Wright was covered well enough that I'm sure most of us can quote his more incendiary sermons 10 years after the fact. And the media didn't seem to spend much time covering the last Republican president's peccadillos (because he didn't have any), yet covered his democratic predecessor's sexual misadventures extensively (because they were, well extensive).
well the media has a lot to do with it the media was reluctant to report on negative things about Obama's past. the best example is Rev. Wright the media today is looking for literally anything it can to attack Trump, b/c the DEM-coordinated media (which is most of the major outlets) have had their brains rotted out with TDS in addition, the media wasn't paying anyone money for exclusive stories to attack Obama. they are doing that for Trump Stormy isn't gong to pay back $130k to tell her story without getting a nice paycheck from the media and other financial concerns
With the payoff by the lawyer during the campaign angle, one could argue that this would have been covered a lot more widely under previous administrations.

They had a choice in the primary and they still voted for him. Ted Cruz might as well have wore a preachers robe on the campaign trail he was pandering so hard for the evangelical vote.

Does the data show that Trump got more of the "evangelical" vote in the primaries where they were still being contested than Cruz?

The hypocrisy would have to be based on something Trump did that was similar to what gay people did, cheat on their spouse.
Uh, no. The definition of hypocrisy is holding a moral position that doesn't conform to one's actions. The action here is politically supporting a person or position that is in opposition to one's moral position, while at the same time opposing a person or political position and citing one's moral convictions as the reason for that opposition.
Infidelity, sex outside of marriage, and homosexuality are all sins according to many Christians and Evangelicals. Excusing away any of them because of political expediency, while condemning other sins for political expediency is hypocrisy.

He wouldn't have been able to win the primary in most of the south without getting a majority of the evangelical vote.

If you remove the arse speaking from this board it will be blank.
I'd like to hear how you think Trump could statistically win these states without carrying the evangelical vote in a Republican primary.

Stormy is greater than Monica.
Stormy is greater than "Michelle" Obama
Stormy is less than Marilyn Monroe

True.

There will always be something in somebody's character that you will oppose, right? Voting for that person doesn't necessarily make one a hypocrite. Were one to rail against Hillary for being pro abortion, when one then goes and has an abortion? That would make one a hypocrite. Were one to rail against Trump for having had an affair 10 years ago, when one is actively having an affair today? Hypocrite. Saying "I'm a Christian, and think adultery is wrong" and then voting for Trump... nope, not a hypocrite. You just aren't. If you say "I'm a Christian and think adultery is wrong" and then you yourself have an affair... that would make you a hypocrite.

True... thing is... nobody is excusing anything away... what he did was wrong. It was a sin. Hope he's asked both his wife and God for forgiveness for it. If not, he needs to.

Sure, as long as you realize it is gross hypocrisy.
You have no idea what the word "hypocrisy" means, apparently.
By your standards Jesus was a hypocrite for talking down sinning yet supporting, loving and helping the supposed scum of society.

Well, he knows what he WANTS it to mean, so there's that.

In most cases, I agree. We're talking about a small segment of voters here. Ones that place their Christian values above all else, and claim those Christian values are what drive their voting and political decisions.

There certainly an argument can be made that perfect is the enemy of the good with regards to Trump. However, evangelicals previously vehemently stated that you can't be a good leader unless you upheld high moral standards. This was a the crux of the argument against Clinton, less so for Obama. Hell, there was an argument made that H. clinton was immoral and thus not suited for the presidency although that wasn't a primary focus in 2016.
To non evangelicals, this switch comes off as absolutely ridiculous. Morals matter except when they don't.
I don't really care that Trump cheated on his wife with a porn star. I do care if he sexually assaulted women, and I do care about any violations of campaign finance laws.
But fricking a porn star? Good on him to bust a nut into her.

Some people might think you posting about what you masturbate to on a political board is weird, but I'm not one of them.

Leftists are the New Puritans, getting off on slut-shaming consenting adults for a sex romp that, allegedly, took place 12 years ago.
You guys must be so proud.
