I will happy to see how this year's teams develop over the course of 56 games. I do not expect a trip to Omaha unless our pitching can be improved but I trust Mainieri and Dunn to develop these young men and perhaps the next two seasons will be our chance to make another Omaha run.
We really still don't know what we have as far as pitching. It's not unheard of for a freshman to step in and be a stud. Hopefully Labas and Storz will be healthy sooner than later. At this point making a Super Regional would satisfy me but next year this team should make a run at Omaha.

Just ignore the little snow flakes, its early, we will be fine.

PM will have this team on track by May. just like every other year.

I will never understand why that phrase has to be repeated every February and March around here.

I certainly don't agree with some of hie decisions(many of the hit and runs) but he has a heck of a record. But to me the main indecator of him being a good coach is seeing other coaches sending their sons to play for him.

Getting "outpitched"? We threw 7 different guys and pulled our starter after two scoreless innings How dense do you have to be to understand these games are less about winning and more about seeing what you have to work with for later in the year?

I could have sworn LSU played Florida for all the marbles just last year.

Since I'm the dumb one, answer this.... since PM is so great.
1. Had you ever heard of him before coming to LSU?
2. Surely the answer is no, so how does such a great coach get so "not known"?
3. How many seasons did he coach before LSU?
4. And those (24) seasons, how many times did he make the CWS?
5. And then go look at the history of LSU baseball and tell me, who made who?

Yes.

18 or so years of Div. 1 coaching experience. Coached at a JUCO before that for 5-6 years.

4. And those (24) seasons, how many times did he make the CWS?
He brought Notre Dame to their first and only CWS since the 50's. So... 1. He also lead them to 40+ wins every year but 1 in his 12 years there, regional appearances 9/12 years and won the Big East regular season 4 times while there.
Did you expect him to bring Air Force to the CWS? He's a great coach, but not a miracle worker.

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that Mainieri "made" LSU. He took a formerly great program that was in the dumps and brought it back to prominence and he's unquestionably one of the 3-5 best coaches in the game today based on any objective measure. I defy you to refute that statement.

Well, let me say it.
He's horrible. And the biggest hoax there ever was. We could have hired 100 people that would have coached LSU as well or better.
LSU already had the resources. Already had the fan bas and facilities. Already had the prestige and tradition. Already had the recruiting pipelines.
So tell me, what exactly has he brought to the table. One serious run at a championship in 7 years?
Sorry, I'll take my chances with someone else.
In 5 years, when he still hasn't won it, what will you say then? or how about 10 years? What a joke!!
Nobody is as stupid as you're making yourself seem to be.

99% of LSU fans had never heard of him. FACT.

You can look all around the country at teams that made "their first" appearance in the CWS or first in a while, and at far less prestigious places and with far less fan support and resources than Notre Dam. Just in a 10 year window, I found more than a dozen. Does that mean they should be the coach at LSU?

By your own measure, Laval won more than 40 games 4 out of 5 seasons at LSU, with 2 out of 5 of those seasons making the CWS. Depending on what 5 year period you take, the record of Smoke and PM are almost the same. For example, 2010-2014. the difference is that PM won early on, that ultimately gave him staying power when he had some down years. Saying Smoke made LSU "formerly great" when he made the CWS 2 out of 5 seasons is disingenuous.
there are easily 15-20 coaches out there that if they were at LSU could do better than PM. You guys continually underestimate the brand power LSU has in baseball. and you overvalue what PM has brought to LSU.

How many programs have been better than lsu at getting to the cws since CPM took over?

At just getting there? I think TCU has been there more often, I think. Everyone else that has gone a lot has had up and down cycles, like Florida, Virginia, South Carolina, Oregon St, Louisville, etc.
