There aren't many coaches better in the game.
College baseball, as a whole, has changed a ton in recent history. The lack of success, which LSU is still more successful than 95% of the rest of college baseball teams, has more to do with the changed game than CPM.
Oh bullshite. Great coaches don't look for excuses. They find a way to win.
LSU is successful because of LSU. Not because of PM. There are literally 100's of coaches that could have come in and done what he has done or better.
Before he came to LSU, had ANYONE heard of him? NO NO NO.
LSU made him great the first day he walked in the door.

I think he is one of the best also but also think underachieved with talent we have.
LSU doesn't have a corner on baseball talent, esp pitchers. the 7 and three quarter scollie limit ensures that. think about it.
winning it all calls for great pitching and depth. no longer can the bats be as dominant as Skip's teams. losing Walker last year hurt us big time in the florida series.
oh, and there is talent all over the country. people were loathe to admit Stony Brook was one hell of a talented (and experienced) team. there are probably more quality players under the radar in baseball than any other major sport. many players don't come into their own until their bodies mature more, esp pitchers.

You have to be kidding??? based on what? Taking a school that already had fan base, resources, tradition, recruiting pipelines, facilities, etc, and making them a national seed every year?? You people have lost your minds!!!
Name 5 better coaches currently coaching in college baseball better than CPM. I will wait.
Is he Bertman? No he is not. Bertman would not be Bertman in today’s college baseball. He would have won more than CPM I will give you that but he wouldn’t have won as much as he did in the 90’s.

Seems to me at least he is not a big game coach.
The man coaches in the most difficult conference in the nation. Averages 48 wins per season....48 wins per f-ing season! His teams have to win A LOT of big games throughout the year to have that type of success.
2008 LSU 49–19–1 18–11–1 1st (West) College World Series
2009 LSU 56–17 20–10 1st (West) College World Series Champions
2010 LSU 41–22 14–16 5th (West) NCAA Regional
2011 LSU 36–20 13–17 T–5th (West)
2012 LSU 47–18 19–11 1st (West) NCAA Super Regional
2013 LSU 57–11 23–7 1st (West) College World Series
2014 LSU 46–16–1 17–11–1 2nd (West) NCAA Regional
2015 LSU 54–12 21–8 1st (West) College World Series
2016 LSU 45–21 19–11 3rd (West) NCAA Super Regional
2017 LSU 52–20 21–9 1st (West) College World Series Runner-Up
In this age of college baseball, it's rather remarkable that Paul is able to sustain LSU's yearly win totals. Don't let the era of Skip give you the false impression of what Paul does at LSU. Those stands continue to be full because Paul keeps his teams at the top of college baseball's elite. Yes, the Skip years spoiled us however that was a completely different way of playing baseball at that time. Yes, we are spoiled....we are LSU baseball fans...the best baseball program in the nation.

I think CPM is a great coach. I mean, who would you replace him with? Lynn's ex-boyfriend?
His only downfall is he will not call for my advice when it's tough sledding for the Tigers.

Not that you ever had any credibility to begin with, but this is fricking asinine. He took Notre Dame to the goddamn CWS

No person that's being honest with themselves knew who PM was before he came to LSU. That's a fact.
Another fact, in 24 years of coaching (before LSU), he made one CWS appearance. Tell me, does this strike you as a "great one".
Sure, he's maintained LSU somewhat. And I don't think he necessarily a bad coach. But he is not great, and LSU could do better. LSU made him great. LSU was already great.
Really? Notre Dam. You mean a school that held in such high regard in everything? What about Stony Brook? Louisville? Kent State? UC Irvine? Cal state Bakersfield? Maryland? Indiana? UC Santa Barbara? San Diego State? Coastal Carolina? Southern Miss? Should we go on?
So by your logic, all the coaches from the above schools could be hired by LSU because they made a single CWS appearance?
So the question remains, before coming to LSU, would made PM "one of the greats"?
And what you will ultimately come to, is the the answer is.... LSU.

LSU was already great.
Since 2012 LSU has more total wins than any other college program.
As I posted in the other thread that you've polluted, you have to be an admin that Chicken is using to troll the board in order to drive up clicks.

I just named a dozen or more schools that made a single CWS with far less resources or fan support than Notre Dam, and I'm sure if I went back a few more years, I could name even more.
But keep trying.

If you think you named a dozen schools with less resources and less fan support when they made it to the CWS than Notre Dame had at the time Mainieri took them to the CWS, you truly are a retard.
ETA: Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina have more than Notre Dame did then, and more than Notre Dame does now. Same with Indiana. Same with UC Irvine.

That's not what he said. But earning 6 straight national seeds shows that we are consistently elite. We have made the CWS 5 times the past 10 seasons, as much or more than anyone in the country. Only one team has had multiple national titles the past 10 years. That team is South Carolina, and they appear to be headed towards missing the NCAAT for the 3rd time in 4 years.

All of this?
Moving to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 1995, Mainieri turned the Fighting Irish into a perennial postseason contender winning the Big East tournament a record 5 straight seasons, making the NCAA Tournament 9 out of 12 seasons, and leading the Irish to one College World Series appearance in 2002. He won the 2001 Big East Coach of the Year award. In total, Mainieri posted a .714 winning percentage going 533–213–3 in twelve seasons.
Also, Skip hired him. Are you saying Skip doesn't know a great baseball coach?

You’re right but these people won’t admit that. CPM is clearly above avg and probly an upper 3rd college baseball coach but the Rant saying he’s alltime or top 3 is crazy. Remember this same group of fans said the same things with the same supporting arguments to determine that Miles was a top 5 coach. LSU isn’t just a blue blood college baseball program it’s the number 1 baseball program but when you compare LSU baseball to Alabama football or Duke basketball we don’t measure up and that’s because CPM isn’t on their coaches level even though the Rant proclaims he is.

I wouldn’t put him near the all time list but I will put him in the top 5 currently. I have asked twice already in this thread for someone to name 5 better coaches coaching right now and no one has answered it.

Wow all the nice things you guys said about me . Lol! Just asked for opinions , I didn't say he wasn't one of the best. As I figured lots of personal attacks. Best you got ? And yes I played basketball, not basebal.l EXCUSE me for asking a question and trying to hear what you thought. Guess it's your way or the highway. You would think I started a coach O thread!
