I follow some of the local news channels on Facebook and they pose a lot of questions that seems like they are just trying to get everyone wound up. Seems they love controversy so I'm not surprised they're on this. But that's why I decline the interview, I'm not going to give them words/statements they can slice up and edit together as the see fit.

I certainly understand why you would be reluctant to give an interview, just to have it twisted on a broadcast. But don't you think that people should hear a point of view that's opposite of all the talking heads on the big networks?

Your posts on here on gun rights are very well thought out and very clear. I think you'd be a great person to have as a counterpoint to the anti-gun narrative.

There are literally people out there who don't know the difference between a .223 and an aircraft round. People just need to be educated.

I definitely thought a lot about that aspect after hanging up. The general consensus on the FFL board I am on is to pretty much not do interviews for obvious reasons. But, at the same time if no one gives interviews then our view is under supported. Then again, if your original words or statements are going to get skewed into something else, taken out of context and not make it out the way you intended during the interview then it doesn't really help at all anyway. So, I don't know.

I don't know how much a local channel would chop up an interview. Honestly, it probably wouldn't be much higher more than a 15 second clip with no content, which is sad.

I just wish they had people on our side speaking up. It's sad to see the left going nuts on TV in an echo chamber, with nobody to set the record straight.

ETA: no matter what they do with it, you probably won't lose any customers, but you might get your name out there a little bit more.

Not related, but my father has done interviews for other industries. They completely took his words out of context on the 5 o clock news.

The whole time thy were interviewing him; they kept asking him basically if the worst case scenario was going to happen. Kept telling them most likely no. But they kept asking. They love controversy.

Granted this is one girl with a small audience but a random student in mass communications at LSU emailed me asking if she could do an interview of me. She saw I was a member of the students for concealed carry group at LSU when I was there. She didn’t realize I’m an instructor now but I feel that makes me a better resource than before when I was younger.

I’m gonna answer her interview questions and then teach her how to shoot as well. She seems genuinely neutral and hungry to learn something new. This is how you convert those who are uneducated - state your points and be courteous then take them to the range. One person at a time we can spread good info and even more people will receive good info after you teach one person who speaks to others.

But if I had my FFL and store on the line as a risk I would be much more hesitant to do an interview.

Record the interview.

They love to say you say things you did not.

Happened to me, and when the reveille archive went online, my name's top link was academic research. Second was linked in. And third was a very off color racist joke. And I'm sorry, 20 year old me was more concerned with spraying that gorgeous black girl than something about her grandpa being so black he had to run behind the bus.

Nah. They will just edit the interview if they disagree with points against them.

Not a bad idea. She’s a minority but I don’t get the impression that she’s an SJW. Still wouldn’t hurt to cover my arse.

Prop, I laughed at this part, because I was already thinking the next sentence.

I can see why, but I would have been SOOO tempted to do it just to frick with them. But your business is your livelihood - if I was your actual legal representative (which I'm not, so it is inappropriate for me to offer you actual legal advice), I would have advised you to decline as well, theoretically.
