I have people in Jasper, I stay there a bunch...I'm also up and down Roswell road, kick it in Sandy Springs and run to the ball field.
I think if you want the best of all worlds, then Woodstock or Canto is ideal.
I like Canton better, small town feel with no daily traffic.

That’s correct, now hop on zillow and look at what you get for 250 in those specific districts.
I just moved to Gwinnett about a year ago and did a year of research looking into this exact issue.
There absolutely are some great public schools in Gwinnett, but you pay the price to live in those districts.

OP hasn’t answered question pertaining to why he’s drawn to that particular area of ATL with a WFH job.
OP should look at Grayson.
OP should also consider Savannah.
3.5 hours from ATL airport on a nice day with a fast car.

Nice downtown area. Close enough to downtown Atl to jump in and out of the city. Great choice of city or county schools. Close to the Tennessee mountains. Outside of the heroin triangle. I could go on.

It’s north of Atlanta. Why would you not classify it as north Georgia?

I'll give you the nice downtown but the rest of Cartersville seems like a dump. You get the same nice downtown, good schools and proximity to downtown with Acworth, Kennesaw and Woodstock in the immediate area.

I lived in Canton for about 6 years. Good small town feel.
If you’re working from home, don’t expect to feel like you’re part of Atlanta. It’s a different world.

The reason I’m looking at the ATL area is because I want to stay within a days drive of Louisiana, with my sister living here, I am trying to stay somewhat south for weather reasons, I want to live close enough to a big metropolitan area where there is tons to do. It’s a plus that there is mountains within a short drive and beaches within a moderate drive. We have also been looking in suburbs outside Tampa and Orlando.

You can buy a ton of house in Dawson County for $250. GA 400 runs thru Dawsonville. It's 50 miles to downtown ATL & 20 miles to Dahlonega. Schools in Dawson are 100% of viking ancestry. It's rural but within spitting distance of anything you want to do.

Even farther of a drive than Atlanta. No thanks.

but I'd probably rather live in Cartersville than in Rome.
Rome folks are a little insular. If the OP moves there he should just look around and do what they do, will fit in pretty quick

I know a baw in Rome that will check anyone’s knuckles at the nearest sonic any time of the day and bang your wife in the process

Rome is worth a trip for the Rome Braves and it really is a decent town with a lot of history. I would prefer Blue Ridge over Rome though.

I used to live in Acworth and I can highly recommend Henry’s Cajun in downtown. You’ll never know you left bayou country

It's the most popular restaurant in Acworth. Chef Henry is great too. He's always out mingling with customers. Dude survived a liver transplant years ago and is thriving.
