Used to be fun to jump the tracks on pecue in the 90’s. Now, the Gordon signs are pretty great.

Why the continuous threads about BR being a shithole? Tiresome.

I moved to BR from an actual shithole. So much so that I consider BR to be a considerable upgrade. And no, I'm not going to say where i moved from so that we can start a whole new debate about whether or not that place is a shithole. Just trust me...

Great food
Quite a bit to do for a city its size (festivals, bars, sporting events)
Decent underground music scene for a city its size
Nice people
Typically mild winters
Relatively close proximity to New Orleans, great fishing, and beaches
Good tasting tap water
Top of the line public library system
A few nice museums (state museum, old state capital, kids museum, uss kidd, etc)
Major university
Underrated (and rapidly improving) downtown
Upcoming Top Golf
LaBerge
Lots of goof courses both public and private
LSU Lakes
Tons of retail shopping variety
Pretty good unmobile industries (chem plants, refineries, port, state government, etc)

It’s far from the worst place ever, but it does have some serious issues with crime, blight, traffic, and public schools.

A lot of people are just saying whats good about Baton Rouge. Food, LSU Football, etc. I'm asking what activities there are in Baton Rouge that people actually enjoy doing, besides bar hopping

It’s come a long way the last few years. It wasn’t long ago that the original rock (but not metal) music scene could literally fit in a phone booth. It’s not the case anymore. Venues like Dyson House, Spanish Moon, Red Dragon, Mid City Ballroom, and Atomic Pop Shop have done a great job cultivating local talent. It’s hard to appreciate until you go elsewhere. Denver doesn’t have half the musicians South Louisiana has. It’s cultural and often goes unappreciated. There’s a lot of great music being made that most people have no idea about because New Orleans is so much closer, NOLA only seems to promote its jazz/funk/bounce acts, and BR has a reputation of being a cover band town.

At the end of the day, anything good about Baton Rouge is overshadowed by the traffic and crime, plain and simple.

Really. Have any of you even been to this town in the last 5 years? There are awesome restaurants and hole in the walls with tremendous food all over the damn place! Ya’ll act like the only places to eat are TJ Ribs, Applebees, and Chili’s.
