That’s criminal.
I, too, am angry for you.
There’s always room next door.
Unlike Californians, y’all are welcome.

Tax bill to benefit Houston in unexpected ways - Houston Chronicle
quote:

The next major boost for Houston's economy comes compliments of the recently passed tax bill, says Regina Mayor, who leads consulting giant KPMG's global and U.S. energy practice.

It's going to have a positive impact. You'll see money being repatriated. Companies that had pursued inversion strategies in the past are actively looking at how to pull many of their activities back to Houston. We'll see many jobs returning. We'll see people having more free cash as their taxes go down. I think we'll see companies being more generous with bonuses and increases, to share some of the benefits with employees.

Why in the hell would anyone pay a state income tax to live in Louisiana? Seriously.

It's a statistical quirk.

The State of La. gives a taxpayer a deduction depending on how much you pay in federal income tax.

Consequently a taxpayer making the same amount of money will pay slightly more in La. Income tax if he sees a federal tax cut.

It's been discussed before and it will help balance the La. Budget.

Sounds like a great impetus to call for a state constitutional convention.

Nah, not really. It's the same tax law it's been for years.

Sounds to me like the state constitution needs amending.

Thank God I live in Texas. I love Louisiana, but it is becoming an absolute shithole.

I’m not reading through 4 pages but the state didn’t do shite. You’re able to deduct federal taxes paid in Louisiana. So since you’re paying less in federal taxes, your liability to the state goes up.

Can’t stand JBE or the inept legislature. But they didn’t do anything here.

This is shitty reporting. Lawmakers have to meet and vote on a bill if they're going to raise taxes.

Here's all that's probably happening here: LA has a deduction for fed income taxes paid. Due to TCJA, less fed income taxes will be paid, so state deductions will be smaller, and like 6% of the gains will go to the state automatically by the end of the tax year. The withholding tables I guess just make that happen faster.

This post and thread are a great microcosm of how biased idiots get outraged before doing even the slightest research or backchecking.
