Yes, because it's more dangerous than other weapons . Arguing otherwise just represents your lack of understanding of firearms.

Would you posit that we have the right to free speech, but not via the most effective and efficient means of exercising that right?
This is not the topic of this thread, so I won't engage this further than this, but I would "posit" that of course you have the right to free speech. The Constitution, and its interpretive body, the Supreme Court, say so. If the most effective and efficient means of exercising that right is by libel, defamation, fighting words, violation of intellectual property law, or hate speech, then no, you do not have that right, and the Supreme Court has held accordingly.
Things in this country are not as absolute as you may wish them to be.

The nation and media will quickly move on to Stormy Daniels. You know the important stuff.

the AR 15 is no more dangerous or deadly than any other gun.
True, any gun can kill, the AR just allows you to kill more in a shorter period of time

Not one of my guns left the house yesterday and went on a mass killing spree.
I would hope not because then you would have real problems
So you have an AR 15, do you really think it protects you from a tyrranical government? I can tell you that if the state wants you, you will need more tn an AR 15 to fend them off. Are using the AR for hunting? What are you tying to kill? Deer? Wild Boar? Lions in Zimbabwe? For my money the .308 Win is as good as there is for dropping a buck at 250-300 yards....the .243 is not bad either. Are you using it for home protection? If so, inside of the house, it's not as efficient as a 9mm. In close quarters the AR is bulky and gets in the way....my Ruger or Glock makes a lot more sense.
I find that most - not all, people who own AR 15's just want to be able to say they have one....I'm not for banning them, just think in any non military endeavor their utility is wanting...even in home self defense.

I'm pro gun and I want mandatory carry laws. Everyone must carry.

As we all know, criminals will get guns. Even if we try to get rid of all guns and was actually successful doing it, we have an open border and we all know that guns would be coming across just as the humans are. Now I see you just want a little gun control. But where does it stop. Liberals have one thing in mind, total control of the citizens, and that means get it started quietly before going for it all.
Thants just MHO, but true.

No right is absolute and the Supremes have said so in many instances ......even the "sacrosanct" 2nd Amendment
If I decide I don't want you coming into my office with a firearm, I'm well within my rights to tell you such and to deny you entry even if you have a concealed carry permit.

quote:I didn't say that bringing God back would fix everything, but what we've done is remove all philosophical (and religious) justification for being "good people" in our attempt to completely secularize everything.
While I don't disagree with you, and I too lament the lack of morality in our country, I believe it short-sighted to think that "bringing God back" would fix all of these problems. People have always been evil. Wars were waged and millions of people were massacred throughout history because of evil men, long before the last half of the last century transpired..
What do we tell people now? "Be nice because it's right." Right according to who? "Being good to others makes you feel good about yourself." Not necessarily. "Be good or else you'll be ostracized from society." What if I don't care about being ostracized? Our society is morally bankrupt and yet we're surprised when evil happens in our midst. We don't even have a good basis for calling evil evil.
quote:No. The issue here is completely a moral one. Human beings are inclined to be selfish creatures and selfishness is at the heart of most evil actions in the world. You cannot legislate that away.
I agree that the value of human life has been belittled to the point of non-existence in a lot of instances, but I also believe that the solution to this problem is highly complex. There is not "one" problem - there are many, and most of them are multi-faceted.

Smothering gun control just means that the crazy people out there that are intent on killing people will just move to other means.
No I doubt they would change their means. It just means they will buy a firearm off the street (as many do now). If the police cant keep drugs off the street how can anyone expect them to keep guns off?
The main effect will be the removal of firearms from people who are law abiding and have no desire to shoot up a school or office...
The only answer is to put these crazy bastards in a secure mental facility. It will be expensive but that is the only way to make sure they dont commit these acts...

I disagree that the issue is as simple as you describe, but it's a fair thought. I agree that you cannot legislate morality, but history has repeatedly shown that certain types of legislation have been effective in curbing the effect of the sometimes evil part of the human condition.
What's your opinion on the most effective way to remind people why we've got reasons to be good? I would say that it should be enough to say "do right by your fellow man," but as you said, I think the natural response to that is "says who?"

No. I hunt with a Weatherby .257. You get a lot of bang for your buck (although .257 ammo is expensive). The .257 shoots fast and flat and still has plenty of knockdown power. My next rifle will be a .308 though.

No. It would have to be a zombie apocalypse before I started shooting an AR15 in my house. Any of my handguns would make a better gun for home protection and there's also no better sound than chambering a round in a shotgun. That sound is universal for get back mofo.
I have AR15s because they are a lot of fun to shoot. I have no doubt that I will never use one to "go to war" with anyone. I'll never have any tactical training. I just simply enjoy going to the range or my buddy's farm and spending the day shooting.

You’re making my point. You don’t see mass shooting in police precincts, do you?
Train them how to use the guns and then it’s a deterrent.

so you want our kids to grow up in a society where they go to school with armed teachers and armed guards at the doors? Parents need to pay attention to their kids. We need to talk to these kids and stop ignoring them. We need to have a discussion about mental health and gun ownership. How did this kid get the gun the smoke grenades?
