Is gondola ride at Venice worth it?

They cost about $100 per person for 40 minutes. So is it worth to pay $200 for a glorified kakak ride?

I would do it just for the experience.

Not really but if you go in the offseason and get one off the beaten path they can be enjoyable.
It's likely not gonna be 40 minutes either, it's been awhile but ours was more like 15.
Your money is better spent elsewhere but it really depends on how much you and your wife would regret not doing it. I would not do it on a busy summer day down the middle of the city.

You paid to get all the way to Venice, it's worth it in that context, and to say you did it and have pictures.
Pretty sure my wife and I got it for €100. You can haggle a bit.

We ended up not doing it for some reason. Just seemed like a tourist trap thing.

Did it just a couple months ago. Worth it to say you did it. Would be like going to Paris and not seeing the Eifel Tower if you didn't. I liked the one off the beaten path much better than the one that went down the Grand Canal. Grab yourself a Bellini and do it. I enjoyed it.

I went. I did it. I would never do it again and regret ever doing it.
Venetians in general, but particularly the gondolears are jerks. They are essentially the Venice Mafia. They ripped us off and tried to tell us we couldn't take pictures.
I would highly recommend not supporting these people.

There's a few cheap, short gondola rides without the singing if you just want to say you rode one. There's a few places that offer basically a ferry like crossing in a gondola. I think there's one at the Mercato di Rialto seafood market. It's like $2 and you get a ride across the grand canal. I'd rather pay for one of the cool water taxis than a gondola ride. They hustle tourists one after the other in those things. If it's right before dark when all the cruise ship travelers and people staying off the island leave and it's less crowded, it may be worth it and you can probably find a better deal.

We enjoyed it. Our gondolier was a good guy. He was like 4th generation gondolier. Apparently, the families that do it pass it down. It cost 100 euro IIRC.

I have done it once. It is worth it to check it off of your bucket list. I am going to Venice in April and probably won't take another gondola ride, but I am glad I have been on one.

Only if the man is singing Italian music while paddling. If not, heck no.

How often are you going to be in Venice? Some things you just do to do

Check out Row Venice. Fun alternative that gives you the chance to row through the canals with a guide. Highly recommend it!

I would do a night time one if I could redo it, my guy answered a call in the middle of ours.

I didn't do it. I'm not wasting $100 on that. You know what they say about a fool and his money.

We did not do it because we were not in the mood to deal with the crowd or haggling/price. Part of me regrets not doing it just so I could say I did it but I dont think we missed out on much.

HELL no! I've seen how busy and tight those canals are, even the back ally canals. No way I'm rowing though any of that.

That's what I'm saying. If you can do it at dusk, when it's not as crowded and a little more romantic, I might would do it. No way in the peak hours of the day.

Yes just don’t do it on the grand canal, that’s what the water taxi is for...do it in the small canals and you will get some great pictures.

The time we did it we boarded the gondola at a pier on the Grand Canal. The water was so choppy we almost capsized. We had to quickly get to the small canals so we wouldn't sink.
