A couple I didn't recommend earlier -
Road to El Dorado
Atlantis
Prince of Egypt - Still has one of the best soundtracks, IMO. I watched it a couple months back and it really hit me, even for someone who isn't very all that big into Christianity. It's a great film for kids if you want to raise them with Christian like. If not, then ignore that recommendation

Not to bust your chops but Prince of Egypt and El Dorado aren't Disney
and if we are going to include NonDisney American Animated...Iron Giant, Shrek, and How to Train your Dragon need to be mentioned as well.

While this is one of my favorite movies (probably my favorite animated movie), I’d say don’t show a kid this movie before they turn 8. If it was live action, it would be a hard R rating. Tons of blood, decapitations, brutal wars, mass deaths, and prostitutes. I do think an 8 year old could handle it given they’re mature enough. The prostitutes will go over the kid’s head, but they’ll get the violence.

Woooops, you are correct. Sorry
I still really like those two FWIW.

I mean I think he was basically asking good to great kid movies in general which is also why people started mentioning Hayao and Studio Ghilbi
I just wanted to make sure if we are going to mention the other ones too that the 3 I mentioned are amazing as well and should be owned.
Also didn't realize this but Hans Zimmer helped make the soundtrack for Prince of Egypt

To be honest, I think it’s a tragedy Disney did not make “The Prince of Egypt”. I do think it is the best rendition of the Exodus story ever put to film. Jeffrey Katzenburg for years tried to get Disney to make this movie, but Michael Eisner refused, which led to Katzenburg leaving Disney and founding Dreamworks.
And it just fits in so well with the other Disney Renaissance films. If they had followed up Hunchback with this movie, the Renaissance may have lasted another 5 years. While James Woods is great in Hercules, it just wasn’t going to cut it.
And sadly I think the Prince of Egypt has largely been forgotten by the masses. The scene where Ramses comes to terms with what Moses has returned for is masterful filmmaking and animation. Not a wasted frame: LINK

I saw it on Netflix and remembered watching it as a kid. Watched it on a Sunday like in November and was in awe at how great of a movie it was and I hardly even consider myself christian now days, despite being raised in the church
ETA: 'Through Heaven's Eyes' is probably my favorite song in the whole movie.

The Plagues was brilliant. I do love how this movie had the balls to say “Yeah the Plagues could last for well over an hour, but let’s instead gloss through something everyone knows and instead just focus on the character development between the two main characters.”
Going back and watching the Ten Commandments just doesn’t do it for me anymore, because the movie glosses over the most interesting part: that they were raised as brothers. This is the core of The Prince of Egypt, and it just works so well. You completely understand all of Ramses and Moses’ actions through the film, while I can’t say I do in the Ten Commandments.

Moana is my favorite Disney movie ever

Well, we watched a couple of the movies earlier.
Lady and the Tramp: just as good as I remembered it. My wife had never seen it and loved it.
The Rescuers: Honestly, a little boring. And I didn’t like the animation. My wife hated it.
I think the next movies we are gonna get are:
The Lion King
101 Dalmations
The Fox and the Hound
Beauty and the Beast
The Emperors New Groove

Honestly... this is really the case for most of Disney between Sleeping Beauty and the Great Mouse Detective. I have a soft spot for the Jungle Book, but that era was mostly shite. I rewatched Robin Hood recently, and I was taken aback by really how bad it is. There’s a bunch of dumb narrative and lazy Animation.
I’ll add Pixar in this, but I do think this would be my Top 20 from them:
1) WALL-E
2) Beauty and the Beast
3) The Hunchback of Notre Dame
4) Pinnochio
5) Inside Out
6) The Lion King
7) Coco
8) The Incredibles
9) Aladdin
10) Sleeping Beauty
11) Toy Story 3
12) Bambi
13) Tangled
14) Toy Story 2
15) Toy Story
16) Mulan
17) Alice in Wonderland
18) Ratatouille
19) The Jungle Book
20) Up!
And I know that you’re thinking that I left out “The Little Mermaid”, but Ariel is a dumb fricking whore who learns that putting everyone you’ve ever known in mortal peril for the sake of fricking a piece of manmeat you’ve never met will be rewarded in the end. I wouldn’t want my kids taking lessons from this despicable slut. She’s bar none the worst of the Disney Princesses, and it’s not even close.

quote:Yep. Being distributed by another company now in the US instead of Disney. Amazing you can get these great movies for half the price Disney charged.
Get in on some Studio Ghibli. Bought My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away for my niece and nephew. Have heard Kiki's Delivery Service is good too.
