quote:Well, it is a tactic used very commonly. And it's been used regarding Raymond for years (UF was the most notorious user last year).
When you have an unstable head coach, rumors that would otherwise be cast aside actually become believable.
However, you are right in the sense that very common tactic is becoming more effective against us. That is obviously because there 'element of truth' that reinforces any confirmation bias is growing.
quote:Yes, it is very dirty. To make it worse, the school is lacking in leverage (for good reason).
frick you. We have a coach and lost a 5 star player who fricked us over. Recuriting is a dirty business and Surtain was a punk.
The only way to meet or beat your competition is to simultaneously be just as dirty (I prefer the term 'ruthless') and use what leverage you do have.
We could have easily told Surtain that we're going to offer Goodrich his spot (true or not!) because we think 'he will be almost as productive'. Do this at least on the last day of the quiet period, if not before.
Here are the outcomes:
- Surtain really wants to come to LSU, commits and then we insist on publicly committing.
- Surtain tips his hand and now we know that we shouldn't hold a spot for him anyway. We know to make sure Goodrich knows he's in if he wants it.
- Surtain doesn't tip his hand, we have good chance at Goodrich. His not tipping his hand is on him (ruthless), and it's first-come, first-serve.
Getting Goodrich instead of Surtain is NOT horrible. In fact it's way better than 'good'. It's pretty damn good.
If you are going to paint yourself in a corner, don't shite in that corner. We did both.

We started Saban to NY rumors... such are lies...

But he is the only coach since the 1960's to take the #1 ranked team in the nation to unranked at the end of the season. I think he is also the only coach to be fired on the tarmac at the airport. The tarmac was five games into the season after his tying the 1960's record.
...and if O had his way, he’d have been the OC last year and you’d be singing his praises.

Yeah, Saban goes through OC's like crazy, yet always wins. Know why? He remains the head coach. It's a pretty important position to have someone that's not incompetent.

I guess O and co. sell kids on sunshine and rainbows? Please, every school tells bullshite about the other side to help sway the decision.
you are right, but the crap that goes on here gives plenty of ammunition to others

Lane Kiffin has never had a losing season in college. Ed Os overall record is under.500. Do tell by which metric is Kiffin worse.

I can care less who is worse, but I can say that Lane has never had to coach at Ole Miss. That was a dumpster fire before O got there, and remained a dumpster fire under his watch.

Ole Miss won 10 games 2 years before O and 9 the 2 years after. The only “dumpster” fire was when O was there. And before saying Nutt won with Os players why couldn’t O? He went 3-9 his last year Nutt comes in and goes 9-4
