Back then.

Then you think what have we done since. We have social justice warriors and sexual deviants rights. (Don't like my comments then bite me).

The flew to the moon and back with less computer power than your I phone.

They were of the same breed that the greatest generation was that won WWII. Those great Citizen Soldiers that came back after the war and built this country that we enjoy and that some would destroy.

Wow, how did we let this happen to us on our watch?

I think the Apollo missions are the greatest achievement in human history. I’m only 27 and I’m really jealous of my parents generation that got to witness it. I hope we can do something like that in my lifetime, but yes attitudes and work ethic are poor these days.

Loss of individualism.

Loss of personal responsibility.

Everyone now is part of a group that is offended and discriminated against.

These people are still around. Like for every launch there’s a 1 in 100 chance that you’re not returning. Not bad odds for the casino, but with your life that takes balls.

I would love nothing more than for China to land on the Moon. If that happens, you can bet your arse we will be on Mars in the decade as well as have a Moon Base.

The space race is a dick measuring contest really. If you made the Earth the size of a basketball, relatively speaking the Moon would be 30 feet across the room. Since 1972 do you know how far humans have gone from that basketball? 3/8 of an inch. So right now the dick contest is 3/8 of an inch vs 30 feet. We need to get the dick measuring contest back in action, and China landing on the Moon would do it.

Lost Moon was a good book.

There's also a video on YouTube of Lovell and Haise giving a presentation about the mission (and correcting a few things they didn't like about the movie).

The movie is propaganda bro , we never went to the moon but it would have been cool if we did - with less computer power than an iPhone .

Even though the mission was a failure in many ways, it still broke several records. One being (I believe) the fastest speed ever traveled by humans, and the most significant IMO is the Apollo 13 team are the humans that have traveled the greatest distance from earth, as during their slingshot around the moon they orbited at a much greater distance from the lunar surface than the mission planned for.

Also a record , traveling through harsh radiation ( Van Allen radiation belt) and not getting cancer or sick in the slightest while traveling in a tin can with no protection .

Those were all personal friends of mine.

That mission was the grandest demonstration of true American grit = absolute competence, unparalleled teamwork, shared responsibility, unwavering courage, devotion to duty. The entire NASA community came together as one heart and mind. Every hour brought new challenges which had never been simulated. True heroes were shoulder to shoulder. I've never felt prouder, or more humble.

"Failure is not an option."

To me, getting that crew back alive is the crowning technical achievement of the American experience, given the timeframe over which it transpired.

I will never forget those days. We were a completely different nation then. A better nation by far. We have sunk so far.

btw - the movie was a very good representation of the events.

While I agree with you I think the most important is:

Loss of accountability

I’m watching a Smithsonian Channel WWII
documentary and I think of all the anti America hate that is being displayed by the Democrat resistance fanatics.

Disturbing

Those were true American heroes.

Libs believe that antifa ganging up and beating the hell out of elderly people are the modern day Apollo astronaut heroes.

There is a video of YouTube of several minutes before the crash. At some point you could see that they could tell something was not right.

In the 20th century alone eradicating smallpox and curing childhood leukemia were far greater scientific achievements.

I have to say, chills came down my spine with your post. I remember some of your past posts on this, and as a child who admired and was obsessed with the Apollo Program, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

America needs healthy competition. If we don’t, then we will turn into an overweight turd and go the way of the Romans. This patriotic if anything.
