FFS don't watch the Olympics or attend many sporting events. I guess all nations are creepy then.

I'll settle for an orange or grape soda, if that'll help.

It’s become popular for libs to be anti anthem and pledge since trump ran a campaign touting those things.
8 years ago, these same people were getting leg tingles

The funny thing about a military is that if you don't have your own, you will quickly acquire someone else's.

Tbird I was thinking of this Mexican place I ate at in SA when I was there last but couldn’t remember the name.
It’s supposedly like the best Mexican place there. Has the guys roaming around playing the little guitars and singing. Was near the Riverwalk.
Any idea of the name of it?
Coming back there in a few months and want to bring my son. Thanks

The atmosphere you described is pretty common down there
Might have been La Tuna or La Gloria, though. Both top notch!
Also highly recommend Tomatillo's Restaurant y Cantina (it's on Broadway) if you want a place a little off the beaten path.
Hope y'all have fun down here!

I now find it sort of creepy to sing about your nation state (particularly if it's required - a la The Pledge).
How is it "creepy" ? Thats an extremely bizarre description.
quote:
Re the military, it's complicated. I like many aspects of it, I'm thankful for it, and I respect the vast majority of its members. OTOH, our military budget is preposterously bloated and wasteful (F-35, I'm looking at YOU), and I believe Trump is calling for a big INCREASE in spending from here.
May be bloated, but thats been the case for a long time now. Why do you expect Trump to be the one that changes that? Also, military funding still creates a lot of jobs for the defense industry, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Rayteon,L3, etc. are all heavily involved in the defense industry and create a massive amount of jobs.
quote:
And the police - I think it should be obvious to anyone with eyes that the mindless deference once granted to police was naive and misguided. In the 1950s, law enforcement was one of the primary tools of subjugation and disenfranchisement of black Americans.
So all police are bad now? Do the police do nothing good for the community? Is that all canceled out now because of the way police were 60 years ago? Was everything the police did bad even 60 years ago? You're making an extremely broad generalization.
Would you feel more comfortable if there were no police?
quote:
Church - I'm atheist, so I don't like appeals to it in general.
But can you at least give the people who do believe in the church the respect of having their own opinions? This country was founded on religious beliefs and it was built up for better or worse through their religious beliefs and has been made far grander than any other country thats ever existed through religious beliefs.
Let me know when there's a large majority atheist country as free and powerful as the US.
Last I checked the largest group bringing in refugees from Syria were not the atheist alliance types...but CHRISTIAN churches.
I'm not a bible thumper and I don't even go to church much at all, but I can at least recognize the role Christian values have played in the history of the U.S.. Christian values even played a major role in freeing black slaves, and the idea of equal opportunity for ALL people in this country. Atheist or not, the religious impact on this country is UNDENIABLE.
quote:
Family - I already said, I don't agree with its inclusion on this list. IMO, family should be the focus of every American.
And what on this earth would motivate a family to stay together? What morals and values keep a family intact? From a purely atheist perspective, why should one get married and have a family?

Nah I'd stick with Mi Tierra's
Unless you're in the mood to eat in that restaurant at the top of the Tower of the Americas. Place is expensive tho. But can't beat the views.

Thanks. I have a cousin who just moved there and we are going to visit and try to catch a Spurs game.
My son has lived in New Orleans his whole life and he’s a Chiefs and Spurs fan!
