Dame is going to be out for blood. That's probably worth a point or two by itself...

I don't think we're going to shoot it as bad as we did in game 1 either...
Edit: I also think we will play a cleaner game in game 2. Whether or not we can clean up the offensive rebounds will be the x factor.

Lillard and McCollum are going to come out absolutely firing. I don't think they will be passive in the first half at all. Just need to weather the storm.
If they give us their best shot and we withstand it, we will win the series.

to that point, read this, from kevin pelton:

I was skeptical when Portland Trail Blazers players and coaches insisted after their Game 1 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans that they'd simply missed good shot attempts, but Second Spectrum tracking data backed up that belief. The Blazers' quantified shot quality (qSQ) of 54.9 percent -- the effective field-goal percentage we'd expect given the location and type of their shots and nearby defenders -- was the best any team had in Saturday's Game 1s. Even when we account for who was shooting using quantified shot probability (qSP), only the Golden State Warriors (56.0 percent) got better looks than Portland (55.3 percent). That's good news for the Blazers because I've found that shot making tends to be more variable from game to game than shot quality.

Were they really that passive in the first half of game 1 though? I recall them having like 15 or 16 shots. That's not what I call passive.

The thing that made the difference in game one was AD and Niko protecting the rim when the guards penetrated. If those 2 don't bring it then Lillard and McCollum will go off. That's also bad for the Pels offense because those blocks and stops fuel transition baskets which are easier to get than half court baskets.
Those bad minutes from Hill were also pretty damaging considering how close it ended up being. We need Diallo or Okafor instead of Hill.

Pels need to do better when it comes to allowing offensive rebounds

I really don't think there's a solution for that other than play Diallo/Okafor over Hill. Here are the rebounds by player from game 1.
AD 14
Niko 11
Rondo 8
Jrue 7
Miller 4
Diallo 2
Moore 2
Clark 1
Hill 0
I don't think you can expect much more from the top 4. Give Hill's 6 minutes to Diallo or Okafor and you have 1-2 more rebounds. That's about all you can really do.

OREB's come from:
1) being boxed out
2) being out-worked
3) lucky bounces
late in the game #2 & #3 happened too often. being out-worked may have been a function of fatigue. lucky bounces are gonna happen

Not in the least. Lillard was doubled off the screen on about 75% of the possessions he had and that kept him from gaining any rhythm. CJ couldn't get any clean looks because of it.

The #Pelicans were outscored by 18 points in their Game 1 win during the 16 minutes that Rajon Rondo and Ian Clark shared the floor. During this time (~1/3 of the game), the #Blazers scored 12 of their 21 total second chance points & also shot 46% (6/13) from beyond the arc.

During the regular season, the #Pelicans posted a net rating of -9.1 while Rondo and Clark shared the floor (296 minutes). This is the worst net rating of any Pels 2-man combo with more than 250 minutes played

The 16 minutes that Rondo & Clark played together during Game 1 is the most minutes in a single game that those two have played together all year.

So in other words, great coaching by Gentry.

Hopefully the smart guys on the staff (Erman and Finch) have figured this sort of stuff out and will be able to reduce those minutes together, and minimize the negative impact of players like Hill.
There's no getting around it, our bench stinks but we need to get our starters some breaks with the pace we run.

looks like harkless practiced with the blazers today and is "getting closer" to a return. he's no world-beater but the pels are so thin on the wing...

This doesn't really make sense. The top 4 all played at least 39 minutes in a game where the opposition took 98 shots at at 37.8%. Just looking at their raw totals doesn't give a great idea of how well they rebounded. We gave up 15 offensive rebounds, with them on the court for a ton.
Now perhaps its part of the trade-off. We played our stud front-court guys for 40 minutes each while Portland opted to play fresh, but have a far inferior fresh Zach Collins taking some of Nurkic' minutes. Reasonable that we'll get beat on the glass playing our starters such heavy minutes.
