re: Ring Floodlight Camera

Besides my doorbell (because it is so close to my router), I will only buy POE hardwired security devices. Just too much risk with spotty connections.

I have one in the box I need to put up. We got Orbi largely because we knew it wouldn't work with our existing router. Our Ring doorbell went from ok/good to flawless with the Orbi addition so hopefully we'll have enough reach for the floodlight now.
As for someone's question about crime, it's kind of complicated. We live in a pretty nice neighborhood, but it's still Atlanta. We have crime waves where mostly juveniles will come in and break into cars or garages, even in upscale areas. When it happens they're usually hitting multiple houses, sometimes over multiple weeks, so the cameras have been very useful in tracking their cars and whatnot (they often switch cars regularly and use drive out tags).

I just got a Ring doorbell, and I love it.
I think the hardware is great but they ned to allow user access to locally record the footage without their subscription service.

Geez...it's only $30 for the ENTIRE YEAR.

When they release their new alarm system in the spring, they will offer alarm monitoring and cloud storage for unlimited cameras for $100/ year. Not bad when compared to other alarm monitoring companies and considering insurance savings , etc
With that said, it would be nice to have the option to store the videos on your own server or hard drive instead of the cloud system

Still pissed ADT had to be a dick and got a court injuction on it, but they are giving me $100 off if they can get it released. Pisses me off Nest is doing the same thing and not getting sued.

The one thing I can atest to about Ring is that they have excellent customer service and listen to their consumers' feedback.

bump.
for the amazon whores, what do you think is going to happen with the video storage for ring in general?
seems like that $30/yr fee may be waived in the future if you have prime huh?
if amazon owns ring, it would be a nice perk/way to get people to choose vs nest if its included in prime.

I hate that Amazon bought Ring.
That would be strong

it makes sense. ring was probably paying for AWS before, and now that its part of amazon, that goes away or is greatly reduced since they don't have to pay amazon for this anymore making a cheaper subscription for consumers possible.
also ring has GREAT customer service so amazon is sucking that in as well.
why not lock people into alexa/prime by offering ring products with free storage for prime members?
i bet ANYTHING amazon is planning this to entice people to prime/alexa. they know google is coming...
look for late 2018/black friday deals that feature ring, 'amazon security' and prime membership as a perk for prime.

I have the doorbell and two of the stick up cams. LOVE THEM. My neighbor has the floodlight and he loves it, has one up at his business as well.
I got my Ring products over the Summer and have had 0 issues other than sometimes having to charge more frequent than 3 months but nothing that is a deal breaker and honestly the doorbell and flood lights are hard wired so shouldn't be an issue with you.

Subscription fee will become a nonissue if Amazon lets them release the Alarm system. $10 a month or $100 a year and you get unlimited cameras and a security system monitoring. You can't beat that shite.

this is where they fricked up
tigerwise, i chickened out and cancelled my order yesterday
imma sit this version out and wait for 5ghz or a better solution to WiFi range issues. I know where this was going wasn't going to get good WiFi from my router. Too much metal & brick between them.

Yeah, I have a mesh system and one of the bases is sitting in a room between the garage and front door. The floodlight has a much better range than the doorbell, but I had to move it closer to the doorbell for the doorbell to work flawlessly.
If you don't have that option or get a free extender, you will have a bad time. They do have the wired version, but it's pricey.

How well does this work? Does it just plug into the wall?

Didn’t get one, it’s a chime as well so it can replace your doorbell chime. Yeah it just plugs into an outlet.

No, the Chime Pro is worthless. Have not heard 1 person say it improved their connection. It actually made mine worse. I switched to Orbi, and now all 7 of mine get great wifi signal.

I've seen it work hundreds of times
