Isn't that somewhat close to what the immigration process is like now?

Let the dreamers stay, who cares.... as long as we can build a wall and cease chain migration and the lottery system.

If those stipulations aren't met, the dreamers go back to Mexico and join drug cartels.

If it doesn't flip states blue, and we get the other shite we need like a wall and end to chain migration, I'm fine with this. Gotta give up something to get something.

I don’t think his base is going to accept a path to full citizenship.

If they came here as children, at the mercy of their parents, and if they have completed their education, worked consistently, paid taxes, and have not abused the welfare system, I don't have a particular problem with them staying, as long as they can't vote or enjoy other rights reserved for citizens only, until they have obtained full United States citizenship through the proper means. If they have a criminal record, or have proved to have been nothing more than leeches since their arrival, ship their asses home.

I don't know why it is so hard to establish these standards. Just use common sense. Of course all the Democrats want is full amnesty for the lot of them.

It depends on what we're talking about. The AP tweet is useless.

If he is talking about a process for legal immigrants in our new system, that's one thing.

If he is talking about a solution for deferred action 20 and 30 somethings or the so-called dreamers, nonstarter.

This is wishful thinking, though. In practice, what happens is this. People claim they were brought here as children, there is no way to confirm it, so that all that apply are granted amnesty. The very few that are denied bring their case in a court in the 9th circuit and get the court to grant them amnesty. No requirements are met. Look at what happened with the Reagan amnesty. The ninth circuit is STILL to this day granting permanent rights to people that allegedly qualified for it, but just so happen to be three decades late to the party.

Here are the supposed requirements of the 1986 amnesty and what ultimately became of them:

English-language requirement -- dropped by the INS.

Fines -- dropped by the INS.

Fees -- waived by the INS.

Back taxes -- dropped by the IRS.

I'm fine with that ... because it'll turn into something more like 12-15 years and it also gets rid of the Visa Lottery program and it funds the wall.

Also, it is going to require that DACA dreamers go through the entire process, just like everyone else.

Let's face it - these kids have been raised as Americans in our schools. We'll keep the good ones and block the bad ones ... it's the only way to go at this point.

I'll also add this. A lot of these Mexicans will be Conservative. They're not all going to be libtards, trust me. There are more Mexican Conservatives than a lot of people realize.

A lot of folks are missing the forest for the trees on this too. Of course they’ll be against the GOP when the GOP is advocating wholesale deportation. But let the GOP be the party of a plan and path to stay and watch them fall in line. They work hard and are staunchly Catholic. Sounds like a Republican wet dream to me.

It turns out, legal immigrants favor the GOP's position on immigration and have for 30 years. In an interesting turn of events, they don't want to recreate their hellhole in this country. Go figure, right?

Kick out the troublemakers and keep the good ones.

Win-win for all involved.

Go to Texas and Arizona and you already see a bunch of second generation Mexican immigrants starting small businesses. I think it is pretty fertile recruiting ground, as you indicate.

It doesn't work like that. For instance, did you know that certain MS-13 gang members were not being deported because they qualified for DACA? The Ninth Circuit granted an amnesty application in 2007 for an immigrant who wasn't in the country in 1986 when amnesty was passed. Don't let Lucy move the football on you. The liberals have spent the last half century imposing bullshite on us using the courts. That's exactly what they are going to do now.

well, you're wrong. we want chain migration gone and to avoid amnesty. If they meet the standards and fulfill the 12 year requirements, who cares? They will remember who gave them the pathway.
