LOL! No, get your own military, your own currency, and your passport ready. The South and the Midwest(Republicans) would be another Venezuela, because they rely heavily on the government. You can't even survive without the US government.

Do you not think things through? Do you not realize that if you invaded they would "invade back" with things like poisoning the water supply of the states invading them? Cutting off drug and medicine shipments? How about simply eliminating cooperation with things like air rights?
Who will control things like USA-wide trademarks and patents and trademarks? Each subsidiary state?

You are completely right that people don't understand how complicated splitting apart will be. Firstly there hasn't been a developed nation of this standard of wealth to ever split apart. Secondly, there would immediately be revanchist elements on both sides. Thirdly, our world standing would take a massive hit. The important geopolitical aspect of it is that foreign powers who are centralized can easily play one side off the other, exacerbating tension and creating problems which do not exist organically. Not to mention people in the country aren't split along ethnic lines. There is a great amount of diffusion, especially in the South.
There are all sorts of issues that splitting apart creates, and it wouldn't solve very much. Even states that have populations that vote one way over the other have upwards of 30% (and most often 40%) people who did not vote for the party in power. That sort of diffusion makes balkanization very difficult, if not impossible.
Typically, large, diverse countries (with India being the prime example) are best suited for parliamentary systems to account for the geographical diffusion of diverse populations. But that's not likely to happen here.
