A coach who currently works for a former member of Alabama's staff may soon be working for the Crimson Tide.

Louisiana-Lafayette defensive coordinator Karl Scott has interviewed for Alabama's defensive backs coach and has emerged as a name to keep an eye on as a possibility for that job, AL.com has learned.

Scott has been at Louisiana-Lafayette since late December, working under former Alabama wide receivers coach and current ULL head coach Billy Napier.

Scott was Texas Tech's defensive backs coach the last two seasons after serving as Louisiana Tech's safeties coach in 2015.

He has ties to new Tide assistant Pete Golding, whom he worked with at both Tusculum and Southeastern Louisiana.

Interesting choice. I'm sure he's a fine coach but he doesn't have many skins on the wall

Guess it doesn't really matter with Saban in charge

He's a good recruiter. Saban is a defensive backs expert so get someone who's young and can recruit.

Louisiana Tech's defensive coordinator Blake Baker is the first favorite name to replace Scott.

Saban hitting the soft reboot on his defensive coaching staff, only Dunbar as of now had prior connections to Saban.

And, though I want Dunbar to stay, he may even be in the NFL again after NSD.

Only bama can get a DC to take a demotion just to come aboard.

LSU is deeply fricked now.

When James Willis was our DC, he briefly left to be FSU's linebackers coach but changed his mind. He ended up leaving the following year to be the Saints outside linebackers coach. Think it happens more than you think.

He would actually be the second DC to join to the 2018 Alabama staff, taking a likely demotion. Although Golding will likely be co-DC with Tosh Lupoi.

Dunbar and Burns from Louisiana too. Though Dunbar is rumored to be headed back to the NFL.

It will be a very young staff overall. The entire defensive staff could be under the age of 40 if Dunbar goes.

Napier was at FSU for a couple weeks before leaving for Bama

FSU was coming off a Natty that year and went 13-1 the next.

Plus his career trajectory looks pretty bad. AHC/LBs at bama then DC at Texas tech till he apparently beat his wife and then stepped down to ULL, then got fired from the saints.

Calm down Saban could hire anyone from anywhere and still get kids out the state. No recruit knows those two. No one has heard of either of them until Bama hired them.
