Does anybody else think the league doesn't want a home team playing at home for SB?

Let me preface all this by saying I am not trying to make this into some huge conspiracy and I don't even necassarily think this will manifest itself by calls on the field--However-- I think there are fairly obvious reasons why the league would rather not have the Vikings (in this instance) in a home SB and here is 2 reasons why:

1) even the slightest perception of a homefield advantage--yes I know the league would obviously go through great lengths to take away any normal homefield advantage they possibly could--from forcing the team to stay in different hotels and different locker rooms etc. but their is no way the league could completely remove that home element--not even close-- and that perception is something the league would love to avoid.

2) (this is to a much lesser extent ) having a home team hurts some of the benefits the local economy enjoys hosting the game itself. From spending money on hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. -- obviously not nearly to the extent of say CFB because the SB is more of a national event that brings visitors from all over the country and world and less of a large mass of visiting fans from that town--but it would still hurt to some extent by the pure logistics of the whole thing if a team is playing in their home city.

Having said all that and assuming for just a minute that this might be potentially true, what could that mean for this weekends Saints game? Honestly, I am not quite sure it does--HOWEVER--after we all witnessed the reality of bountygate, I don't find it a huge stretch to imagine it's beyond the rhelm of possibility to imagine the league might try to find a way to influence the Vikings not making the big game.

What say you?

This all makes complete sense.... I guess I’d just like to think they care at least a little about the sports integrity rather than money.

My fear is the frickin Falcons facing them in the nfc Championship and winning. Not only do I hate them but objectively they are pretty boring to watch. If it ends up being Falcons vs Pats again I believe this shite is rigged

Minnesota would not lose a home NFC Championship Game

I'd stake my life on that shite

There is actually a rule that even if the host team is technically the away team they get to use the home locker rooms they normally use etc. Obviously this rule has never had to be enacted but it is there. For instance, this year AFC is home team but if Minnesota makes t they get their home locker rooms etc. basically all the afc would get is to get to pick which jersey they want to wear

The league could always prevent the Vikes from advancing to the Super Bowl the following week.

I don't see any favors coming from the NFL.

The Saints will advance on their own merits.

I stated this after the Thursday night game. No doubt in my mind that this isn’t what the NFL is doing. Watch how the Falcons and Patriots games are called.

Can’t wait to see Vikings message boards blame this if we win.

Goddell was only worried about the Saints getting a home field advantage in the Superdome thus suspending Payton. Could care less if Vikings are anybody else would get one though!!

No, it's exactly what it is, a minor coincidence.

What is more likely.

The NFL risking losing significant money and permanently damaging it's reputation for very minor indirect financial benefits.

Or a roughly 7.5% chance doesn't happen over many years, which is filled numerous reasons the true probability is actually less.

Really? You're still holding out for more evidence? Saints game at Atlanta was fixed. Refs decided the Chiefs-Titans "Forward Progress" game. Do you really think an organization that makes that much money just can't find 16 decent refs?

The NFL is just like Bravo--they create drama and televise it!

Keep in mind that Goodell’s wife and her family grew up Vikings fans. Just throwing that out there.

I'll put on my tinfoil hat this morning. I think the NFL saw the ratings and bad blood between the Falcons and Saints, and will do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Having a home Superbowl team hurts the bottom line, and no one gives a frick about something that happened in 1998.

I want to believe there is no merit to this. I hope the refs just let them play Sunday and we beat them fair and square. Seems as of late the refs are making it all about them and it's robbing the fans of enjoyment.

I really don't want to give the fans any ammo (Bountygate) to call the Saints anything but the better team on Sunday.

The hosting venue home team playing would cut out some of the outside revenue coming in for the local economy so there is room for discussion on the NFL trying to make it not happen.

WHO DAT!

Minnesota hotels don’t want Minnesota in the super bowl. I can probably safely assume that.
