A actually want to do a duck hunt with one of those one day. A gentleman's gun.

I have an older Beretta 687. Gold enlayed.

A beautiful gun. I've never fired it.

They have been around awhile, they have the rights to make Foxes, Parkers, Winchester sxs shotguns, plus some of their own designs. They are making the new Fox guns for Salvage, but the design is not the original fox design like their other guns, but instead a cosmetic change from their RBL sxs shotgun. This will be their entry level gun, some of their custom stuff sells in excess of $50k. They should have perfected the CNC machined guns at this point.

I do not own a rifle/scope combo that totals 1/2 of that price.

I understand the premise behind these guns but I just don't get the appeal.

Have you ever held one? Shot one? They are typically a better-balanced gun than a pump or a semi-auto. The designs are made to last generations, the only downside for some is 2 shells.

Q: what makes the O/U a staple or the gun of choice in the upland community? Is it the look/nostalgia or is it a function thing?

Like I said, I understand their existence, I just don't get why you would want to drop that kind of coin on it. It's just not personally appealing.

Heck, I bought a cheap one last year because I was hoping Wick was going to invite me hunting with him, and I wanted to fit in. I reckon now I'll just use it for the first Saturdays in September.

I carry a sxs when hunting behind dogs. I normally walk a couple of miles on a hunt through brush and briars. I shoot a 20 gauge with 26" barrels, double triggers that weigh about 6lbs.

The gun swings well and moves in my hands like a wand. The double triggers allow me to select 2 different chokes at a moments notice, and it is light and I can carry it all day.

found a late-90s HK Fabarm 12g O/U at Cabelas for a steal; impulse purchase. Excellent condition, 24" barrels. Its my new favorite walking-in-the-woods squirrel/rabbit/dove gun. super light, crisp action, love it. more accurate with this on doves & clays than my other semi's. Dont know the answer to your question but now I want another O/U @ 30" dedicated for clays. love the way it shoots...

Used to go to the Spring Thaw in Coushatta years ago, they had a clay shooting competition where everyone who participated and brought their own shotgun had to leave it on a table so anyone else competing could use it as well. Lots of nice shotguns but my 26" Ruger Red Label got handled more than any other and always got borrowed a few times. Nothing swings and shoulders like a field O/U.
