I don't know what this means but it's an observation.
Black women seem to be disproportionately hired by State and local governments compared to private businesses. The stats say the same is at the Fed level.
DMV, city jobs, Unemployment offices, Career counseling, etc.
You can find towns where black women are 6% of the population but 75% of DMV or City employees.
I don't know the reasons or if the government has quotas or if getting jobs in the private sector is because of prejudice or lack or resume or experience.
But a large portion of black women you see working in offices and daily life seem to be government-affiliated...not private businesses.

Well yeah, she is still more educated than the welder since she has more advanced degrees than he does. The welder is definitely more financially successful though.
She would have more formal education. That doesn't equate to a person being more educated. The welder is probably more educated in metalurgy, physics, geometry, electrical systems, etc. Also better educated in basic mathematics since he/she figured out a much needed trade skill can provide more income than a Bachelors in almost any non-STEM field and a fair number of STEM fields too.

That’s fair. I was just counting the number of tangible degrees, but you are completely correct.

quote:According To BLS the median wage for welding is a little less than $40,000 as of 2016 with an hourly wage or about $19.00. If that's better than ALL non-stem fields, and a fair number of stem fields, then the $25.00 hourly wage posted by BLS appears to be completely wrong.

Then again, maybe it's just my non-welder math skills that are confusing the numbers.
BLS data for welders

Corrine Brown managed to get a diploma from a major university and is functionally illiterate.

And Sheila Jackson Lee graduated from UVA and Yale

And Sheila Jackson Lee graduated from UVA and Yale
So Sheila Jackson Lee is rich and in congress so who are we to judge either of them as we talk about either of them on a message board like the losers that we are, at least by cptbengal's standards?

The number of awarded associates, bachelors, masters, and PhD degrees.
What they point out is that black women have a larger % of degrees awarded to them than any other racial and gender group.
Did you actually fricking read the original source? Because it appears the author of the article didn't.
"In contrast, the share of certificates earned by White students decreased from 59 to 54 percent during this period. The shares of certificates earned were similar in 2003–04 and 2013–14 for Black students (19 percent)"
The table says that black women received 66% of the degrees awarded TO BLACK PEOPLE, not the entire population.
Jesus effing Christ.

All this shite proves is how absurd our college system has become.

Proof that the term "educated" is no longer meaningful in today's "pick a bull shite degree" environment
Frankly. I don't think I've ever met a sociology major I would describe as "educated"
It's to the point where the more appropriate descriptor is to simply say "degreed"
Accurate yet not dishonest

I just can’t believe a major news organization would so grossly misinterpret that data and not a single person catch that before putting it to print and not even correct it to this day.
Oh come on. It's totally believable that this would happen.
For it to not happen, you would have to have someone in the room who would openly question it.
And THAT shite is a good way to end up a jobless writer

I've worked in manufacturing my entire life and the only black woman I've ever in any significant position was a project manager, and she didn't last long.

So by their criteria, if a black woman gets a gender studies degree and can't get a job she's more educated than a white male HS graduate who makes $80k as a welder?

how could she possibly not be considered more educated than a welder?

If this was actually true and not some statistical manipulation, it would be great news. Many in the racial grievance industry would need to close up shop.
