re: Do you accept the notion of the Big Bang as the origin of our universe?

It is the most likely explanation we have based on the evidence

I guess if you define "religious people" so narrowly as to exclude brilliant scientists, physicists, philosophers, etc who understand spheres of inquiry--again a straw man tactic--then you have a point. A weak and meaningless one.

Matrix/hologram universe > big bang

ETA: what’s your theory for the origin of the universe?

All the great theologians like Hester Carries and myself have concluded that yes, the big bang happened and yes it was caused by God. But no, he didn't do it on purpose.
Despite his best intentions, God is a bit of an idiot, as far as deities go. So we must praise him and love him, but most of all we must be patient with him. He's still figuring a lot of things out.
Evidence:
Checkmate, everyone else.

Upvote for you. I personally would have chosen the duck billed platypus but I see why you did what you did.

Excellent suggestion but this is a religion founded by my colleague and myself some time ago. I'm afraid the kiwi is quite the cornerstone and non-negotiable. A platypus could be quite the compelling supportive argument though. I'll bring it up at the next council meeting.
In the meantime, could I interest you in some free literature?

Which book? I haven't finished writing any of them yet unless you include my children's books, and yes those fit that bill, intentionally.
I'm currently reading one of my best friend's latest mystery novel. You should check it out. Written In Blood, by Layton Greene.
I am also wading through Chuck Taylor's A Secular Age. He's one of those guys who understands how to question instead of clinging to dogma out of fear. Next up is Alvin Plantinga.
I'll let you know how that goes.
I find this stuff absolutely fascinating. And it's particularly interesting to me in the context of truth and meaning--Qoheleth (and Sartre) say: if your origin is meaningless and your destiny is meaningless then admit your life is too. Expand, contract, die.

All of our lives are meaningless. What’s your point?

Is there but one universe? My theory is, I like reading the theories of people who are a lot smarter than I am, and they are fascinating from a scientific perspective. I haven't quite developed my own unique one yet, sorry.

Human understanding of the universe is on par with an ant’s understanding of calculus. Man is such a pitifully arrogant creature to believe he knows jack shite.
Knuckle draggers at best, yet think we are so smart......

Big Bang seems like bullshite

I wouldn’t say that, weve made tremendous progress - especially over the past hundred years.

Good answer. Way to not show any commitment to anything you believe ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconthumbup.gif)

No, because what was there before? Nothing?
Posted on 1/3/18 at 10:32 pm to DavidTheGnome
In the beginning was nothing and nothing exploded.
You forgot to mention that it was infinitely hot.
How can something that is infinitely dense be infinitely hot? Stuff must be moving to be hot, but it can't move if it is infinitely dense.
