Buying a Manny Randazzo Kingcake

I made a similar post a few months ago asking about price but this time I'm interested in how long the lines get (I'm aware they're usually long). Does anyone have any experience going super early in the morning to line up the week before mardi gras? I believe they open at 6:30 and I was planning to get in line sometime from 5:30-6 for one. I figured that'd be enough time to wait in line, pick one up and still make it in to work at a reasonable hour. If y'all think that the line will still take multiple hours then I'll just go the Saturday before and freeze them.

The week before if you get there by 6:00, the line won't be bad.
Saturday and Sunday of Mardi Gras weekend starts getting crazy, but a 5:30 show up time would have you up front
Haydel's has great cakes too

Man that's crazy. Unless I can walk in some place and pay and walk out there is no way.

Walmart has a table in the front of the store with King Cakes. The lines weren’t that long when I was there. They are longer on the weekend though.

Please do not buy and freeze...yuk! The Randazzos style king cakes are loaded with white frosting & granulated sugar; this WILL NOT freeze and defrost well at all.
Frankly, the Randazzo's king cake is meh. No better or worse than any others in this same style--Caluda's Coffee Cottage in Elmwood has a similar squishy soft filled king cake. Skip the hype and get a Haydel's or practically any other supermarket style king cake. They're indistinguishable.
Or just drive out to NO East and get a Dong Phuong cake, or to the West Bank and get one from Hi-Do bakery. Or try the uber-delicious version from Tartine on Perrier St. Or the fancy pants one from Gracious Bakery.

The Chevron on 22 in Mandeville has them delivered fresh, every morning.

I don't get standing in line that long for a king cake. There are many good ones out there that don't require being in line before the store opens.

all I get is Rouse's king cakes when I am in town...plain cinnamon version. we typically eat it for breakfast.

That's Manny's ex wife that makes those. Same exact recipe as Manny's just couldn't sell them under the same name.

Bruh, just go and suck it up. The line moves fast.

You've never had a Manny's king cake have you? It's ok to admit it if you haven't. Not many on here have. Try it and then you'll know what the wait is for. Trust me.

It’s a king cake bro. How good could it honestly be?

So I'm guessing you've never tried manny's either

I work with a couple of ex chalmatians, I’ve had plenty of Manny R king cakes. Absolutely do not understand the hype. It’s a soft, danish dough style king cake, like dozens of other bakeries around town. I think there is a big nostalgia factor for the ex St Bernard folks.
